Senior Financial Accountant | Fully Remote

Hibernian Recruitment is partnering with a growing business with a portfolio of retail stores, artisan foodhalls and delis to recruit a Senior Financial Accountant.

Working hand in hand with an entrepreneurial CEO, you will take ownership of the finance function and bring the insight, systems and financial discipline needed to support continued growth.

This is a hands-on role with real influence. You will manage the day-to-day finances while helping the CEO understand what is driving profitability, where costs can be reduced and how the business can operate more efficiently.

The Role

• Take ownership of day-to-day financial operations, including bookkeeping oversight, reconciliations, cash flow and financial controls.
• Prepare timely monthly management accounts, with clear commentary on performance, variances and actions required.
• Lead the migration from Big Red Cloud to Xero, establishing efficient processes and reliable reporting.
• Develop automated reports and dashboards that give the CEO an accessible, up-to-date view of business performance.
• Analyse margins across locations, products and categories, identifying opportunities to improve pricing and profitability.
• Build budgets, forecasts and financial models covering stock, ingredients, wages and operating costs.
• Identify and quantify waste, unnecessary expenditure and operational inefficiencies, working with the CEO and relevant teams to deliver improvements.
• Flag emerging risks early and translate financial information into practical recommendations.
• Manage banking relationships and support negotiations on debt, funding and repayment arrangements.
• Coordinate with external accountants and advisers on year-end accounts, tax and statutory requirements.

About You

• A qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with strong experience in a hands-on finance role working within an SME .
• Experience within retail, food, hospitality or another stock-focused, multi-site business.
• Confident managing both the detail of day-to-day accounts and the broader commercial picture.
• Strong financial modelling, forecasting and margin analysis skills.
• Experience implementing or improving finance systems; familiarity with Xero would be an advantage.
• Commercially minded, proactive and comfortable challenging costs and established ways of working.
• Able to turn complex financial information into clear, practical advice for a busy CEO.
• Organised and self-directed, with the ability to take ownership in a fully remote role.
