About the Role

We are seeking an exceptional Senior Financial Accountant who has spent several years working directly in the Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) industry.

Direct, multi-year CPG experience is a core requirement for this position.

We are specifically looking for someone who has spent a meaningful portion of their accounting career working inside a CPG/consumer products company or extensively supporting CPG clients. This may include food & beverage, beauty and personal care, household products, health and wellness products, or similar physical consumer product businesses.

This is not a general Senior Accountant position where exposure to CPG is simply a plus. The successful candidate should already understand the financial and operational realities of an inventory-driven consumer products business from years of hands-on experience.

You should understand how inventory, purchasing, landed costs, COGS, pricing, sales, gross margin, distributors, retailers, and e-commerce channels ultimately flow through the financial statements.

This is a high-autonomy, hands-on position. You will be expected to take ownership of accounting responsibilities for a U.S.-based consumer products business with minimal supervision and perform the work in accordance with U.S. GAAP.

What You'll Do

• Independently manage day-to-day accounting activities for a U.S.-based CPG business.

• Own key components of the monthly and year-end close.

• Maintain an accurate and complete general ledger.

• Prepare journal entries, accruals, prepayments, reclassifications, inventory adjustments, and other adjusting entries.

• Perform bank, credit card, balance sheet, and inventory reconciliations.

• Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable.

• Prepare monthly Income Statements, Balance Sheets, and Cash Flow Statements.

• Prepare management reporting and supporting schedules.

• Review transactions for appropriate classification and U.S. GAAP treatment.

• Independently investigate discrepancies and accounting issues.

• Maintain audit-ready financial records.

• Support audits, tax preparation, and other financial reporting requirements.

CPG & Inventory Accounting Responsibilities

You should already have substantial hands-on experience with many of the following from your previous CPG roles:

• Inventory accounting and inventory reconciliations

• Cost of Goods Sold (COGS)

• Product costing

• Landed costs, freight, duties, and other inventory-related costs

• Inventory receipts and purchase orders

• Inventory reserves, write-offs, shrinkage, damaged and obsolete inventory

• Vendor accounting and supplier payments

• Gross-margin analysis

• SKU and product-level financial analysis

• Inventory and COGS-related journal entries

• Retail, wholesale, distributor, DTC/e-commerce, and/or marketplace sales channels

• Revenue and sales-related accounting within a consumer products environment

• Investigating inventory and gross-margin variances

• Working across accounting, operations, purchasing, and supply chain functions

The expectation is that the successful candidate will already understand these concepts from years of working in CPG, rather than learning the industry after joining.

Required Experience

CPG Experience - Non-Negotiable

• Minimum 4+ years of direct accounting experience in Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG), consumer products, or a closely related physical-product industry.

• Candidates should have worked directly for a CPG/consumer products company or have spent multiple years substantially serving CPG clients.

• Experience should include meaningful responsibility for inventory, COGS, financial reporting, and month-end close.

• Experience should be recent and substantial - not simply one CPG engagement or limited exposure earlier in the candidate's career.

• Candidates coming primarily from banking, financial services, SaaS, telecommunications, professional services, or other non-inventory industries without several years of CPG/consumer products accounting experience will not be considered.

Accounting Experience

• 7+ years of progressive professional accounting experience.

• Prior professional experience with a Top 10 global accounting or professional services firm.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related discipline.

• Strong U.S. GAAP knowledge or significant experience supporting U.S.-based businesses.

• Strong technical accounting foundation and professional judgment.

• Demonstrated ability to independently own accounting responsibilities with minimal supervision.

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.

Professional Certifications & Qualifications

Candidates should hold a recognized professional accounting qualification.

Required - at least one of the following or an internationally recognized equivalent:

• ACA - Associate Chartered Accountant

• ACCA - Association of Chartered Certified Accountants

• CPA - Certified Public Accountant

• ICAN - Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria qualification

Additional relevant credentials are advantageous, particularly:

• CIMA / CGMA, particularly for candidates with strong management accounting, product costing, and CPG experience

• Relevant IFRS or U.S. GAAP training/certifications

• Advanced financial modeling, ERP, inventory management, or accounting systems training

Certifications do not substitute for the CPG experience requirement. A highly credentialed accountant who has not spent several years working in CPG/consumer products will not be the right fit for this role.

Strongly Preferred

• Big Four experience: Deloitte, PwC, EY, or KPMG.

• Experience with established CPG brands.

• Food & beverage, beauty/personal care, household products, health/wellness, or similar industry experience.

• Experience working with manufacturers, importers, distributors, or retailers.

• Experience across multiple CPG sales channels, including DTC, e-commerce, wholesale, retail, distributors, and marketplaces.

• Experience supporting U.S.-based companies.

• Experience with QuickBooks Online, Xero, NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, or similar accounting/ERP platforms.

• Experience with inventory management systems and e-commerce platforms.

• Experience with Bill.com, Tipalti, or similar finance platforms.

Application Requirement

Applicants must clearly demonstrate their CPG experience.

Applications should specify:

• The CPG/consumer products companies or clients you worked with.

• How many years you worked in CPG/consumer products.

• Your position and responsibilities.

• The types of consumer products involved.

• Your experience with inventory accounting and COGS.

• Your experience with month-end close and financial reporting.

• Sales channels you supported, such as retail, wholesale, distributors, DTC/e-commerce, or marketplaces.

• Accounting certifications held.

• Big Four/Top 10 experience, if applicable.

Candidates who cannot demonstrate several years of direct CPG/consumer products accounting experience should not apply.

What Success Looks Like

Success means being able to enter the business already understanding how a CPG company operates financially.

You should be able to look at the books and understand the relationship between purchasing, inventory, landed costs, sales, COGS, and gross margin. You should recognize when inventory balances, margins, or financial results do not make economic sense and independently investigate why.

You should be capable of identifying errors or unusual items, researching unfamiliar issues, determining the appropriate accounting treatment, and producing reliable financial information without someone reviewing every routine decision.

We are looking for someone who is technically excellent, deeply familiar with CPG accounting, resourceful, accountable, and comfortable operating independently.
