Senior Global Medical Director – Cardio-Renal-Metabolic Disease
About the role
We are looking for a Senior Global Medical Director to provide strategic medical leadership across selected early indication expansion and pipeline opportunities in cardio-renal-metabolic disease. In this highly visible role, you will ensure Medical Affairs insights are incorporated early and consistently into lifecycle strategy, population segmentation, clinical development, integrated evidence planning, scientific differentiation and launch readiness, connecting R&D, Global Product Strategy, Market Access, Evidence Generation and country Medical teams to build a compelling and medically meaningful value proposition for patients, healthcare professionals, payers and health systems.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the global Medical Affairs strategy for assigned indication-expansion opportunities, aligned with overall asset strategy and evolving portfolio priorities.
- Provide senior medical input to indication sequencing, target-population definition, patient segmentation, desired medicine profile, differentiation and the scientific value proposition.
- Partner with Clinical Development on study design, endpoints, data interpretation and the medical relevance of development choices, bringing the external clinical environment and patient pathway into decision-making.
- Lead or co-lead integrated evidence planning for assigned indications, identifying and prioritising evidence gaps across clinical outcomes, PROs, RWE, health outcomes, epidemiology, diagnostics, care pathways and implementation science.
- Drive integrated global scientific communications (publications, congresses, advisory boards, scientific education and other channels) to support robust evidence narratives and core claims.
- Provide targeted Medical Affairs leadership to selected early cardio-renal-metabolic assets, from candidate selection through Commit to Phase 3 or transition to asset-specific medical leads.
- Profile patient pathways and treatment landscapes, define unmet needs and identify evidence and education requirements that shape development choices and future clinical practice.
- Build strong global matrix partnerships across R&D, Evidence Generation, Global Product Strategy, Market Access, Regulatory, Safety, Finance, Procurement and country Medical teams, aligning stakeholders on clear strategic choices and resolving competing priorities.
- Manage project-critical resources, vendors and budgets to deliver agreed milestones with quality and pace.
- Be accountable for appropriate medical governance of strategies, studies, materials and activities, ensuring compliance with the GSK Code of Practice, SOPs and relevant external codes and regulations.
Leadership capabilities
- Strategic enterprise thinking: connecting disease-area science, asset strategy, evidence, access and healthcare delivery.
- Strong scientific judgment: challenging constructively, distinguishing critical evidence from noise and making clear recommendations under uncertainty.
- External orientation: bringing patient, practitioner, payer and health-system perspectives into strategy and understanding the evolving treatment landscape.
- Collaborative leadership: building trust across functions, geographies and cultures and creating alignment around shared outcomes.
- Execution focus: prioritising ruthlessly, converting strategy into high-quality deliverables and maintaining momentum across multiple workstreams.
- Learning agility: rapidly developing expertise and adapting support as indications and early assets progress.
Basic criteria for success (must-have)
- MD/MBBS, PharmD or PhD in a clinical or scientific discipline.
- Experience in cardio-renal-metabolic disease, with direct clinical or scientific work in this area (e.g. managing patients, conducting clinical research or leading relevant scientific programmes).
- Experience in Medical Affairs at global and/or major-market level, with strategic responsibility for an asset or disease area (e.g. shaping lifecycle strategy, leading launch-excellence plans, or directing evidence-generation activities).
- Experience in supporting all stages of clinical development, integrated evidence planning and lifecycle strategy, including contributing to study design, endpoint selection, data interpretation and post-approval evidence plans.
- Experience in translating external medical insights and complex evidence (clinical trials, RWE, health-outcomes data) into asset strategy, development decisions and executable medical plans.
- Experience in leading within a global matrix, influencing senior cross-functional stakeholders and driving decisions under ambiguity without direct line authority.
- Experience in managing multiple concurrent projects, budgets, vendors and priorities in a fast-paced global environment, delivering high-quality outputs to agreed timelines.
- Experience in high-impact scientific communication, with outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English and a track record of distilling complex information into clear strategic recommendations for diverse audiences.
Preferred qualifications and experience
- Experience with pre-launch and launch preparation at both global and local level, including evidence generation, scientific communications and omnichannel medical strategy.
- Experience in patient segmentation, endpoint strategy, real-world evidence, health-outcomes research or implementation science.
- Experience contributing to regulatory briefing documents, payer dossiers, guideline-shaping evidence or fulfilling post-approval commitments.
- Experience evaluating early assets or business-development opportunities and informing portfolio decisions in cardio-renal-metabolic disease.
- Robust understanding of diverse healthcare systems, internal and external codes of practice, safety and regulatory requirements, and applicable industry standards.
