Senior Health & Safety Specialis

Role Description The Senior Health & Safety Specialist is a part-time, remote role responsible for guiding and overseeing health and safety standards across participating rural tourism villages. This role involves assessing existing safety practices, conducting risk evaluations, and advising on the implementation of health and safety protocols aligned with international standards. The specialist will develop and deliver safety training materials, support local stakeholders in improving workplace safety, and monitor compliance with Environment Health and Safety (EHS) requirements. Day-to-day activities include reviewing documentation, providing remote consultations, preparing reports and recommendations, and collaborating with village representatives and UN Tourism teams to strengthen occupational health and safety frameworks.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated expertise in Health & Safety and Occupational Health, with the ability to advise on policy, standards, and risk mitigation.
• Experience in Environment Health and Safety (EHS) and Workplace Safety, particularly in diverse or low-resource settings.
• Proven ability to design and deliver effective Safety Training and capacity-building programs for varied audiences.
• Strong analytical, reporting, and communication skills, with proficiency in documenting assessments and action plans.
• Relevant academic background in occupational health, safety management, environmental sciences, public health, or a related field.
• Experience working with international organizations, rural communities, or tourism-related projects is an asset.
• Ability to work independently in a remote setting, manage multiple stakeholders, and adapt guidance to local contexts.
