About the RoleThe Senior Histopathology Slide Quality Specialist is responsible for providing remote technical quality oversight of histopathology slide preparation, staining consistency, digital slide integrity, and laboratory quality documentation. The role focuses on reviewing digital slide images, assessing technical artifacts, monitoring quality indicators, investigating recurring preparation and staining issues, and supporting continuous improvement across histopathology workflows. Working remotely, the specialist collaborates with pathologists, histotechnologists, laboratory quality teams, and diagnostic operations personnel to strengthen slide quality, traceability, and consistency. Physical laboratory procedures and diagnostic interpretations remain the responsibility of appropriately qualified local personnel.
Key Responsibilities- Review digitized histopathology slides for technical quality, image clarity, tissue representation, and suitability for professional review.
- Assess digital slide images for common technical artifacts, including folds, tears, chatter, compression, staining irregularities, air bubbles, and focus-related issues.
- Evaluate slide preparation and staining quality using documented laboratory criteria and approved quality standards.
- Review hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining consistency and, where applicable, special stains and immunohistochemistry outputs.
- Identify recurring slide quality defects and investigate potential contributing factors through remote data and documentation review.
- Monitor quality indicators relating to tissue sectioning, staining consistency, slide completeness, labeling accuracy, and digital scanning performance.
- Review digital pathology images for scanning artifacts, incomplete tissue capture, image stitching defects, and inadequate resolution.
- Assess slide and specimen traceability records for consistency across laboratory information systems and associated documentation.
- Support the development and maintenance of histopathology slide quality checklists, review criteria, and standard operating procedures.
- Analyze quality control trends and prepare reports on recurring technical defects, corrective actions, and improvement opportunities.
- Collaborate remotely with histotechnologists and laboratory supervisors to investigate slide preparation and staining discrepancies.
- Review nonconformance records, corrective and preventive action (CAPA) documentation, and quality improvement reports.
- Support root cause analysis of recurring slide quality failures and recommend practical process improvements.
- Evaluate the consistency of slide quality across different laboratories, staining platforms, and digital pathology systems.
- Assist with remote quality assessments of digital pathology workflows and image management processes.
- Review documentation relating to equipment maintenance, staining reagent quality, process monitoring, and internal quality controls.
- Contribute to internal audit preparation and quality management reviews involving histopathology operations.
- Support the implementation of standardized slide acceptance and rejection criteria.
- Provide technical guidance and training materials on slide quality assessment, artifact recognition, and documentation practices.
- Maintain accurate records of digital slide reviews, identified defects, quality findings, and recommendations.
- Monitor relevant developments in digital pathology technology, histology quality practices, and laboratory quality management standards.
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Histotechnology, Biomedical Science, Pathology Laboratory Technology, or a related discipline.
- Significant experience in histopathology laboratory operations, histology quality assurance, slide preparation oversight, or digital pathology quality review.
- Strong understanding of histological tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, staining, and slide preparation workflows.
- Knowledge of H&E staining principles, special stains, and immunohistochemistry quality requirements.
- Experience identifying common histopathology slide artifacts and assessing their impact on technical slide quality.
- Familiarity with digital pathology scanners, whole-slide imaging systems, and digital image review platforms.
- Understanding of tissue specimen traceability, slide labeling, laboratory documentation, and quality control requirements.
- Experience with laboratory quality management systems, nonconformance reporting, CAPA, and root cause analysis.
- Familiarity with relevant laboratory quality standards, including ISO 15189 principles, where applicable.
- Ability to evaluate technical slide quality without independently making clinical diagnoses or issuing pathology interpretations.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail when reviewing digital images and laboratory quality records.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and laboratory information management systems.
- Ability to prepare clear technical reports, quality summaries, and corrective action recommendations.
- Strong communication and coordination skills when working with pathologists, laboratory technologists, and quality teams.
- Ability to manage multiple quality review activities independently in a fully remote environment.
- Fully remote working arrangement within the stated UAE-based role framework.
- Opportunity to contribute to histopathology quality improvement and digital pathology development.
- Collaboration with experienced laboratory, pathology, and quality assurance professionals.
- Exposure to digital slide imaging technologies and laboratory quality management systems.
- Opportunities for professional development in histotechnology quality assurance and digital pathology operations.
Interested candidates should submit an updated CV highlighting their histopathology experience, slide quality assessment expertise, digital pathology knowledge, and laboratory quality assurance background.
