Job Description
This is a remote position.
ITTConnect is seeking an Senior Infrastructure Engineer expert in Virtualization / VMWare / VCF to work remotely for a client in the US.
Job location: Remote, work from home, anywhere in LATAM.
The Senior Infrastructure Engineer (Virtualization) is a hands-on engineering role in our Managed Services team. You will own the operation and health of the virtualization platforms running our clients' workloads: cluster and host lifecycle, capacity and performance tuning, NSX network and security policy administration, and acting as technical lead when a platform-level incident is live. You will work alongside storage, network, and service desk engineers, supported by a global network operations center that handles first-line monitoring and triage.
Our core platform is VMware Cloud Foundation 9 with NSX, and this is an administration and operations role rather than an installation role. If you have deep vSphere 8 experience but have not yet worked in VCF 9 or VVF 9, we will train and certify you on it. Experience operating KVM-based or Hyper-V environments is a plus as more clients run mixed estates.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate NSX day to day, including segments, distributed firewall policy, gateways, load balancing, and troubleshooting east-west and north-south traffic.
- Manage ESXi host, vCenter, and vSAN lifecycle including patching, firmware alignment, certificate management, and capacity planning.
- Diagnose and resolve performance and availability problems across compute, storage, and the virtual network, and drive them to root cause.
- Serve as technical lead during platform-level incidents, coordinating with clients, internal teams, and Broadcom or hardware vendor support.
- Administer KVM-based or Hyper-V environments where clients run them, and support workload migrations between hypervisors.
- Automate recurring operations work using scripting and the vSphere and NSX APIs.
- Write formal root cause analyses, execute changes through structured change management, and maintain documentation of baselines, designs, and tuning decisions.
- Lead technical delivery of virtualization projects including upgrades, consolidations, and migrations.
- Give client stakeholders clear status reporting and practical capacity and best-practice guidance.
- Mentor junior engineers and work with storage, network, and service desk teams so the platform fits the wider environment rather than sitting beside it.
Requirements
- 12+ years in infrastructure engineering with at least 4 years administering enterprise VMware environments, in roles where you owned the platform rather than only consumed it.
- MUST BE fluent in English
- Hands-on administration of VMware Cloud Foundation 9 or vSphere Foundation 9 including NSX, or deep vSphere 8 administration (ESXi, vCenter, HA and DRS, vMotion, distributed switches, vSAN) with the aptitude to certify on VCF 9 in your first year.
- Working knowledge of NSX operation: overlay segments, distributed firewall, Tier-0 and Tier-1 gateways, and traffic troubleshooting.
- Strong Windows and Linux server administration as it relates to guest OS, drivers, and tools lifecycle.
- Solid understanding of the storage and networking layers beneath virtualization, including shared storage protocols, VLANs, MTU, routing, and multipathing.
- Automation ability using AI tooling, scripting (PowerCLI, Python, or an equivalent), and direct work against platform APIs.
- Experience writing formal root cause analyses and working inside a structured change management process.
- Clear client-facing communication and the ability to work independently across many client environments at once without losing track of any of them.
- Prior MSP or other multi-client experience, ideally supporting several customer environments at once.
- Associate's or bachelor's degree in information technology or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- VMware certifications such as VCP-VCF Administrator, VCP-DCV, or VCP-NV, or a comparable virtualization certification.
- Hands-on experience administering a KVM-based platform or Microsoft Hyper-V with Failover Clustering.
- Experience with VMware Aria Operations or similar for capacity and performance management, and with hyper-converged hardware such as Dell VxRail or PowerFlex.
