Job Purpose
The Senior Inventory Accountant at BELAY combines strong accounting expertise with specialized knowledge of inventory, cost accounting, and inventory management systems. This client-facing role is responsible for managing complex inventory accounting activities across multiple client accounts while providing clients with accurate financial information, practical guidance, and solutions that support their business operations.
Senior Inventory Accountants serve as a key accounting resource for inventory-driven businesses, working directly with clients to understand and improve inventory accounting processes, costing methodologies, system functionality, and financial reporting. They perform and oversee inventory reconciliations, cost accounting activities, month-end close processes, and inventory-related financial analysis while troubleshooting system integrations, data discrepancies, and process issues.
This role also supports inventory management system implementations and ongoing system maintenance, including data validation, system configuration, integrations, and client training. Senior Inventory Accountants identify opportunities to improve accuracy, efficiency, reporting, and automation and work collaboratively with clients, Accounting Managers, Controllers, and internal teams to implement effective solutions.
Senior Inventory Accountants are expected to lead through technical expertise, client partnership, accountability, sound judgment, and continuous improvement while delivering a consistent, high-quality client experience.
.Duties & Responsibilities

Client Service & Inventory Accounting
- Serve as a primary client resource for inventory, cost accounting, COGS, inventory systems, and related accounting matters.
- Lead client discussions, explain complex accounting and system concepts, and provide practical recommendations.
- Manage recurring inventory accounting, including reconciliations, inventory adjustments, costing, COGS, and month-end close activities.
- Analyze inventory balances, standard and landed costs, gross margin, and variances to identify discrepancies and accounting issues.
- Investigate inventory variances and system discrepancies and determine appropriate accounting treatment in partnership with clients.
- Maintain accurate inventory and accounting records and ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and BELAY processes.
Inventory Management Systems & Integrations
- Support implementation, configuration, maintenance, and optimization of inventory management systems and related integrations.
- Prepare, map, validate, and migrate inventory data, including SKUs, costs, vendors, customers, and other system data.
- Troubleshoot system, sync, and integration issues across inventory, e-commerce, and accounting platforms.
- Test system functionality and accounting outputs to ensure transactions flow accurately between connected systems.
- Train clients on inventory systems, accounting processes, and best practices and maintain supporting documentation.
Financial Reporting & Client Advisory
- Prepare and review financial statements and inventory-related reporting.
- Analyze COGS, gross margin, inventory turnover, and other relevant financial and operational KPIs.
- Help clients understand the financial impact of inventory, costing, purchasing, and operational decisions.
- Identify trends, risks, process gaps, and opportunities to improve accuracy, efficiency, reporting, and automation.
- Partner with Accounting Managers, Controllers, and internal teams to resolve complex issues and support client needs.
Onboarding, Transitions & Process Improvement
- Support client onboarding and transitions involving inventory accounting, systems, and integrations.
- Assist with inventory cleanup, system setup, data validation, and reconciliation activities.
- Develop and document standardized inventory accounting processes and best practices.
- Support special projects and system implementations as assigned.
- Collaborate across BELAY teams to deliver a consistent, high-quality client experience.
Minimum Qualifications
This role requires a motivated and trustworthy self-starter with strong accounting, analytical, communication, and technological skills who thrives in a client-facing environment. Our ideal Senior Inventory Accountant is proactive, detail-oriented, and solutions-focused, with the ability to understand both the accounting and operational side of inventory-driven businesses.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 4–8 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in client-service, outsourced accounting, or inventory-focused environments
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial statements, reconciliations, month-end close, inventory, and cost accounting
- Demonstrated experience with inventory accounting, COGS, inventory reconciliations, or cost accounting
- Experience with inventory management systems, accounting systems, and/or system integrations
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Online and related accounting applications
- Excellent client communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple clients, systems, and deadlines in a remote environment
- High attention to detail, organization, and follow-through
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with inventory management systems or ERP platforms such as Cin7 CORE, Netsuite, SAP, or comparable platforms
- Experience with e-commerce platforms such as Shopify, Amazon, A2X, or similar systems
- Experience with standard costing, landed costing, inventory valuation, or related cost accounting methodologies
- Experience supporting IMS implementations, system migrations, or accounting system integrations
- Experience working with inventory-driven, e-commerce, manufacturing, wholesale, or distribution businesses
- Experience training clients or users on accounting or inventory management systems

Legal Disclosures
Pay Range: $65,000-$80,000 annually
Starting Pay Range: $65,000
Other Types of Pay: None
Health Insurance: Medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance are available to eligible employees. BELAY covers 70% of employee premiums and 65% of dependent premiums for medical, and 70% of employee premiums for dental and vision. Company-paid life insurance ($15,000 coverage) and short-term/long-term disability coverage (STD: 60% of weekly earnings up to $1,500; LTD: 60% of monthly earnings up to $10,000) are provided at no cost to full-time employees.
Retirement Benefits: 401(k) plan through Vanguard, with a 4% employer discretionary match. Employees are eligible after 90 days of employment.
Paid Time Off: Full-time (40 hr/week) employees receive 15 days of PTO annually; full-time (30 hr/week) employees receive 12 days. Additional PTO is awarded at 3- and 5-year tenure milestones.
Paid Holidays: 12 paid holidays annually (New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, President’s Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Day After Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and one floating holiday of the employee’s choosing).
Paid Sick Leave: Full-time employees’ PTO accrual generally satisfies state and local paid sick leave requirements in the states where BELAY hires. BELAY follows all state specific requirements.
