THE OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking an APS6 Senior Investigation Officer for our federal government client, on an initial 12-month fixed term (non-ongoing) contract, based in either Canberra or Melbourne.
In this role you will;
- Apply a risk‑based approach to conducting investigations into potential anti‑avoidance schemes under the Electoral Act and the Referendum Act.
- Use data and intelligence tools to draw insights which proactively identify high‑risk behaviours, entities, and schemes, supporting further compliance action and contributing to the development of targeted compliance strategies.
- Prepare high‑quality briefs, reports, and correspondence to inform decision‑makers and contribute to the ongoing development and refinement of policies and procedures related to electoral funding and disclosure.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and support to junior staff as required, fostering capability development and high‑quality outcomes.
Essential criteria
- Demonstrated experience in supporting or leading financial audits (or similar assurance activities), with strong organisational skills and a proven ability to manage tasks methodically, accurately, and in accordance with procedures.
- Well-developed analytical skills with the ability to interpret moderately complex information, identify issues or risks, and provide timely, accurate, and well-informed advice to support decision-making processes.
- Willingness to be flexible and adaptable as the section responds to the requirements of the legislative changes and guide junior staff as we navigate our reform journey.
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to collaborate effectively within teams and across business areas, and to build and maintain productive relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities, deliver quality outcomes under pressure, and apply sound judgement to balance competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
A Certificate IV in Government Investigations or the willingness to undertake this qualification, is highly desirable.
Please note that you must be an Australian citizen with the ability to obtain baseline security clearance to be considered for this opportunity.
This role can be located in Canberra or Melbourne with hybrid working arrangements.
This is a non-ongoing opportunity for up to 18 months, and S26 transfers from other government agencies may be considered.
