- Take on interesting, varied legal work that is central to CA ANZ’s organisational strategy
- Make a meaningful impact by strengthening member standards and trust in the accounting profession
- Build your expertise in a unique environment with complex matters and ongoing opportunities to learn
Step away from traditional client-facing legal work and use your expertise to deliver fair outcomes, strengthen professional standards and make a meaningful contribution to the accounting profession.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As Senior Lawyer, Conduct & Discipline, you will investigate complex complaints involving CA ANZ members and help deliver fair, robust and professional disciplinary processes. Working closely with the Australian Conduct Leader, colleagues and independent disciplinary panels, you will manage matters from initial investigation through to committee and tribunal proceedings. Your contribution will help maintain high standards of competence, integrity and public confidence across the accounting profession.
Key responsibilities:
- Investigate complex complaints and member conduct matters in accordance with CA ANZ’s Charter, By-Laws, Regulations and Guidelines.
- Prepare and manage matters for consideration by the Professional Conduct Committee, Disciplinary Tribunal and Appeals Council.
- Apply sound legal judgement and procedural fairness when analysing evidence, developing investigation strategies and recommending practical outcomes.
- Build trusted professional relationships with members, complainants, disciplinary panel members and internal stakeholders while maintaining independence and confidentiality.
- Strengthen the team’s capability and processes by sharing expertise, coaching colleagues, supporting panel training and contributing to continuous improvement.
ABOUT YOU
You are an experienced legal professional who can quickly get across complex investigations, identify key issues and confidently manage matters under pressure. You bring sound judgement, fresh ideas and strong advocacy skills, along with a collaborative approach and the confidence to present cases before disciplinary committees and tribunals.
What you’ll bring:
- A relevant tertiary qualification in law, together with a current Australian practising certificate, or eligibility and willingness to obtain one.
- Deep experience managing complex investigations involving multiple individuals, members, organisations or firms.
- The ability to quickly understand complex matters, identify key issues and develop clear investigation and case strategies.
- Demonstrated experience preparing and presenting persuasive cases before tribunals, disciplinary bodies, courts or similar forums.
- Strong legal judgement, resilience and organisational skills, with the ability to manage a varied caseload and work effectively under pressure.
- A collaborative and innovative approach, with the confidence to contribute your own ideas, improve processes and build trusted stakeholder relationships.
Experience within a professional body, regulatory, co-regulatory or member-based environment, together with a demonstrated interest in professional standards and ethics will be highly regarded.
