Senior Laytime and Demurrage Analyst
Remote, based in the Philippines · Full-time or project-based
About Cmpnion
Cmpnion is building a laytime and demurrage desk for commodity traders, charterers and ship operators working out of Singapore. We are building software that reads charter parties, Notices of Readiness and Statements of Facts, prepares draft calculations and tracks every time bar. Our analysts own the final number: every calculation and claim that leaves the desk is checked and signed off by an experienced laytime professional.
The role
You will be one of the first senior analysts on the desk. You will handle live voyages and claims, check and correct the software's work, and help decide how the desk treats difficult clauses. This is hands-on claims work.
What you'll do
- Review and sign off laytime and demurrage calculations, from single-port voyages to multi-port cases with reversible and non-reversible laytime.
- Assess whether each Notice of Readiness is valid, decide when laytime starts, and apply exceptions correctly.
- Reconcile Statements of Facts with loading and pumping logs and letters of protest.
- Track notice and submission time bars for every charter party, so every claim goes out complete and on time.
- Prepare and present demurrage and despatch claims, and review owners' claims for charterers.
- Negotiate disputed items with evidence, and recommend when to settle and when to escalate.
- Identify gaps between charter parties and sale contracts for back-to-back recovery.
- Turn your decisions on real cases into rules and checks for the software.
What you bring
- At least 4 years of hands-on laytime and demurrage experience on the owner, charterer or trader side, in dry bulk, tankers or both.
- Expert knowledge of voyage charter parties and laytime clauses, such as GENCON, ASBATANKVOY, SHELLVOY, BPVOY or traders' own forms.
- A track record of handling claims through dispute and settlement.
- Experience with laytime software, such as Veson IMOS, Voyager Portal or Marcura, or a well-built spreadsheet system of your own.
- Strong written English, and discipline about deadlines and documents.
Nice to have
- BIMCO, FONASBA or ICS training.
- Experience with commodity sale contracts (FOB, CFR, CIF) and back-to-back claims.
- Experience with Singapore-based traders or operators, or with Asian port practice.
- Experience reviewing junior analysts' work.
