About the Role

SecurityHQ is looking for an experienced Senior Legal Advisor to join our global Legal function.

Reporting to the Director of Legal, you will take ownership of complex commercial contracting and data protection matters across our international business. This is a senior, hands on position where you will work closely with Sales, senior leadership, and C suite stakeholders to provide practical legal advice that supports commercial growth while managing risk.

Alongside advising on day to day legal matters, you will have the opportunity to shape the frameworks, processes, and governance structures that support a growing global cybersecurity organization.

This role is hybrid, 3 days per week in our Johannesburg office.

About SecurityHQ

SecurityHQ is a global cybersecurity company. Our specialist teams design, engineer and manage solutions that do three things: Promote clarity and trust in a complex world. Build momentum around improving security posture. And increase the value of cybersecurity investment within organizations. Free from limitations, and inclusive of all requirements, we focus on defending today, while mitigating the risks of tomorrow. And into the future. Our solutions are tailored to our customers and their unique context. Around the clock, 365 days per year, our customers are never alone.

SecurityHQ – We’re focused on engineering cybersecurity, by design.

Responsibilities

• Lead the drafting, negotiation, and review of complex commercial contracts, including customer agreements, vendor agreements, SaaS agreements, and Master Services Agreements.

• Advise the business on contractual risk, liability, deal structures, and customer amendments.

• Partner with Sales and senior stakeholders to find commercially practical solutions to complex legal matters.

• Develop and improve contracting frameworks, escalation processes, governance standards, and legal templates.

• Lead and advise on data protection and privacy compliance across multiple international jurisdictions.

• Draft and negotiate Data Processing Agreements, subprocessing agreements, and standard contractual clauses.

• Advise on international data transfers, data governance, privacy notices, data retention, and breach notification requirements.

• Monitor changes in privacy legislation and communicate their impact to relevant business stakeholders.

What We Are Looking For

• A qualified attorney with five to eight years of post qualification experience.

• Strong commercial contracting experience gained within technology, cybersecurity, managed services, telecommunications, or a similar environment.

• Excellent legal drafting, negotiation, and contract review skills.

• Strong knowledge of UK and EU GDPR, together with experience of at least one additional international privacy framework.

• The confidence and commercial awareness to advise senior leaders and C suite stakeholders.

• Experience working across different jurisdictions and managing complex, competing legal requirements.

• A proactive and independent approach, with the ability to take ownership and build effective legal processes.

• Experience across both private practice and an in house environment would be beneficial.

• A professional privacy certification such as CIPP/E, CIPM, or the BCS Practitioner Certificate in Data Protection would be advantageous.
