Join us and be part of a mission-driven, independent publisher. You’ll work with a diverse group of people who share a passion for empowering researchers, educators, and institutions to shape the future.

About Sage:

Sage  is a global academic publisher of books, journals, and library resources with a growing range of technologies to enable discovery, access, and engagement. Believing that research and education are critical in shaping society, Sara Miller McCune founded Sage in 1965. Today, we are controlled by a group of trustees charged with maintaining our independence and mission indefinitely.

Our guaranteed independence means we’re free to:

  • Do more – supporting an equitable academic future, furthering disciplines that drive social change, and helping social and behavioural science make an impact

  • Work together – building lasting relationships, championing diverse perspectives, and co-creating resources to transform teaching and learning

  • Think long-term – experimenting, taking risks, and investing in new ideas

About our Team:

The Audience Engagement team links researchers, authors, editors, librarians, institutions, and society partners to high-quality research within our Open Access and Hybrid journals. Positioned at the crossroads of marketing, publishing, and audience insight, the team develops and implements strategic engagement programs that boost awareness, increase submissions, strengthen connections with collaborators, and support portfolio expansion.

Could you be our new Senior Marketing Manager, Audience Engagement? Are you?

  • An experienced marketing professional with a track record of developing and delivering successful audience engagement strategies that achieve measurable business outcomes?

  • A people-focused manager who enjoys coaching, developing, and empowering others to thrive and perform at their best?

  • Skilled at turning data, insights, and campaign performance metrics into meaningful actions and recommendations?

  • A confident relationship builder who can collaborate effectively and create alignment across functions and priorities?

  • Highly organised and comfortable managing multiple projects, competing priorities, and deadlines while maintaining quality and focus?

  • An excellent communicator with the ability to present ideas clearly, engage different audiences, and adapt your approach to achieve the best outcomes?

  • Influential and collaborative, with experience gaining buy-in for new initiatives, recommendations, and innovative ways of working?

  • Curious, creative, and solutions-focused, with experience leading projects, driving continuous improvement, and finding opportunities to improve performance?

Your new role:

As Senior Marketing Manager, Audience Engagement, you will lead the development and delivery of audience engagement and communication plans for collaborators across a diverse Open Access and Hybrid journal portfolio. Combining critical thinking with operational excellence, you will ensure marketing activity supports key business goals while crafting meaningful experiences for researchers and other interested parties.

Leading a dedicated team, you will use audience insights, campaign performance data, and market intelligence to develop priorities, optimise activity, and identify new opportunities for growth. You will play a meaningful role in building strong cross-functional relationships, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring marketing plans deliver measurable results.

  • Develop and lead audience engagement and collaborator communication strategies that increase awareness, drive submissions, support usage, and contribute to portfolio growth.

  • Translate departmental and business priorities into effective marketing plans, objectives, and lifecycle engagement programmes.

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of marketing professionals, encouraging an encouraging, inclusive, and high-performing environment.

  • Coordinate the planning, delivery, and optimisation of multi-channel marketing campaigns, ensuring activity is audience-focused and dedicated.

  • Use campaign performance data, audience insights, and market intelligence to measure impact and consistently boost marketing efficiency.

  • Build positive relationships with Editorial, Researcher Marketing, Marketing Operations, and other collaborators to align activity with shared goals.

  • Guide the creation of compelling marketing content and collaborator communications that reflect audience needs and strengthen engagement.

  • Lead projects, continuous improvement initiatives, and external partner relationships, ensuring resources and investment deliver maximum value and impact.
