Job Title: Senior Metabolomics Assay Specialist

Location: United Arab Emirates (Remote)

Employment Type: Full-Time

Work Arrangement: 100% Remote — Work From Home

Level: Senior

About the Role

The Senior Metabolomics Assay Specialist provides advanced technical expertise in the evaluation, optimization, validation, and quality oversight of metabolomics assays used in biomedical research, pharmaceutical development, biotechnology, and clinical research. The role focuses on analytical method performance, metabolite identification, quantitative data quality, assay validation documentation, and interpretation of complex analytical datasets. Working fully remotely, the specialist collaborates with laboratory scientists, bioinformaticians, researchers, quality teams, and project stakeholders to ensure metabolomics methods are scientifically robust, reproducible, and appropriately documented.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and assess targeted and untargeted metabolomics assay methodologies and analytical workflows.
  • Provide technical guidance on assay design, method optimization, and analytical performance evaluation.
  • Review data generated through liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC-MS), gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS), and other relevant analytical platforms.
  • Evaluate assay sensitivity, specificity, selectivity, accuracy, precision, linearity, recovery, and reproducibility.
  • Review calibration models, reference standards, quality-control samples, and analytical acceptance criteria.
  • Assess sample preparation methodologies, including extraction procedures, derivatization strategies, and matrix-effect evaluations.
  • Review metabolite identification, annotation, quantification, and confidence-level documentation.
  • Evaluate analytical performance indicators such as detection limits, quantification limits, carryover, signal stability, and instrument drift.
  • Assess batch performance, quality-control trends, analytical variability, and potential sources of measurement bias.
  • Review assay validation, verification, transfer, and lifecycle management documentation.
  • Support the evaluation of metabolomics data generated from biological matrices, including plasma, serum, urine, tissue, and cell-based samples.
  • Review data-processing workflows, normalization approaches, statistical analysis outputs, and metabolite profiling reports.
  • Collaborate with bioinformatics teams to assess data integrity, feature alignment, peak integration, and metabolite identification workflows.
  • Investigate assay deviations, unexpected analytical results, outliers, and inconsistencies in laboratory-generated datasets.
  • Recommend corrective and preventive actions to improve assay robustness, reproducibility, and data quality.
  • Review method transfer packages and assess comparability between analytical platforms or laboratories.
  • Support the development of standard operating procedures, analytical protocols, technical reports, and controlled documentation.
  • Evaluate the suitability and traceability of reference materials, internal standards, and metabolite libraries.
  • Contribute to analytical risk assessments and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support internal audits, research quality reviews, and technical assessments relating to metabolomics assay performance.
  • Monitor developments in metabolomics technologies, analytical chemistry, mass spectrometry, and relevant quality standards.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Metabolomics, Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Molecular Biology, or a related discipline.
  • A master's degree or PhD in Metabolomics, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field is highly advantageous.
  • Significant experience in metabolomics assay development, analytical method validation, mass spectrometry, or bioanalytical research.
  • Strong understanding of targeted and untargeted metabolomics methodologies.
  • Practical familiarity with LC-MS, GC-MS, and associated analytical data-generation workflows.
  • Knowledge of metabolite extraction, sample preparation, derivatization, calibration, and quantitative analysis principles.
  • Experience reviewing assay performance characteristics, including accuracy, precision, selectivity, sensitivity, recovery, and reproducibility.
  • Understanding of matrix effects, ion suppression, ion enhancement, carryover, and analytical interference.
  • Familiarity with metabolite identification, spectral libraries, reference standards, and compound annotation approaches.
  • Experience reviewing chromatographic and mass spectrometry datasets using relevant analytical software.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis, data normalization, quality-control assessment, and bioinformatics workflows.
  • Understanding of analytical validation principles and relevant quality frameworks, including applicable GLP, GMP, and ISO requirements where relevant.
  • Experience with method transfer, deviation investigations, change control, and corrective and preventive action documentation.
  • Strong scientific writing, technical review, and data interpretation skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage complex analytical information.
  • Ability to work independently and coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary teams in a fully remote environment.
What We Offer
  • Fully remote working arrangement within the stated UAE-based role framework.
  • Opportunity to contribute to advanced metabolomics research and analytical development programs.
  • Collaboration with multidisciplinary specialists in analytical chemistry, biotechnology, pharmaceutical science, and bioinformatics.
  • Exposure to evolving mass spectrometry technologies and metabolomics methodologies.
  • Opportunities for continued professional development in analytical science and assay quality management.
How to Apply

Interested candidates should submit an updated CV highlighting their metabolomics experience, analytical assay expertise, mass spectrometry knowledge, and relevant method validation or research achievements.
