We are looking for a Network Automation Architect @ MDO


DNA (Drive Network Automation) is an initiative that unites several projects building a technology-savvy platform used across different instances and domains for the automation and orchestration of network elements, services and network functions. MDO stands for Multi-Domain Orchestrator - the platform that orchestrates networks across various domains.
We are looking for a senior Network Automation Architect to join the MDO team and help shape the architecture of our network automation capabilities. The role combines architectural responsibility with hands-on engineering and is well suited to a Senior Network Automation Engineer who wants to broaden their architecture scope. You will contribute to automation and integration patterns, technical decisions and design reviews, while also implementing solutions together with our international teams.

Responsibilities
• Help shape and evolve the architecture of MDO network automation capabilities, including reusable automation patterns, interfaces and technical guidelines.
• Design, develop and maintain network automation components and scripts for multi-domain orchestration of network elements, services and network functions.
• Translate business, service and network requirements into practical, reusable automation designs together with domain experts, customers, Product Owners and engineering teams.
• Contribute to architecture and design reviews and support consistency, lifecycle management and versioning across automation components and interfaces.
• Stay hands-on by implementing and reviewing network automation components and scripts in Python and Java.
• Implement service workflows and integrations using technologies such as YANG, YAML, JSON and RESTful APIs; TOSCA or BPMN may be used where applicable.
• Support engineering quality and technical alignment across distributed teams using Git, CI/CD, testing, DevOps and Agile ways of working.

Architecture & Design

• Strong experience in designing and developing network automation or orchestration solutions, with an interest in taking architectural responsibility.
• Experience with complex automation logic, service/resource definitions and reusable integration and interface patterns.
• Ability to turn complex telecommunications and automation requirements into clear technical designs and implementation guidance.
• Good problem-solving and communication skills, with a collaborative and pragmatic working style.

Engineering & Automation

• Strong object-oriented software engineering skills in Python or Java, plus working knowledge of or willingness to work with the other language.
• Experience with technologies and data description formats/languages such as YANG, YAML and JSON.
• Experience with RESTful APIs and common software engineering practices such as Git, CI/CD, automated testing and code reviews.

Networking & Telecommunications

• Good understanding of networking concepts and technologies such as WAN, LAN, routing and modern transport networks.
• Experience with network automation, orchestration or service automation in a telecommunications environment.
• General understanding of telecommunications infrastructure and service/resource lifecycle concepts.
Collaboration & Communication
• Experience working in distributed international cross-functional teams and with different technical and business stakeholders.
• Familiarity with Agile ways of working such as Scrum or SAFe and a DevOps mindset.
• English spoken and written at least at Level B2.

Nice to have

• Experience with TM Forum SID and/or TM Forum Open APIs.
• Knowledge of SDN, cloud networking architectures or 5G slicing.
• Experience with TOSCA, BPMN and/or workflow engines such as Camunda.
• Knowledge of telco operational processes such as fulfilment, assurance, OSR or ITIL.
• Experience with application/container concepts, software packaging and configuration management.
• German language skills.
