What you’ll do

We're building data center sites, and each one needs a Facility network that's designed right, built right and runs right after go-live. This role owns that, from the ISP handoff all the way to the BMS.

You'll draw your own designs, configure your own gear, work with vendors and contractors to get it built, and support it once it's live. We move fast, so you need to be comfortable making decisions and keeping things moving.

Where you’ll work

This role is ideally based in our San Francisco, Long Beach, or Houston offices, with full-time onsite expectations outside of bi-weekly WFH Fridays.

That said, we will make exceptions for truly exceptional talent if you live outside one of our hubs. If you're the right person for this role, we'll have a conversation about what works.

Responsibilities

  • Architecture. Own the network across all our sites: core and distribution switching, routing, out-of-band management, IP addressing and DNS, firewalls and remote access. Build standard reference designs so each new site is a deployment, not a redesign.

  • Physical layer. Design and draft the site-level network drawings: structured cabling, cable tray and pathways, cable specs, cabinet and cross-connect standards, and fiber and copper plant throughout the building.

  • Network security. Own firewall policy and rules, intrusion detection and prevention, segmentation and access control between zones, secure remote access for staff and vendors, and logging into our monitoring stack.

  • OT network. Set up IT/OT segmentation and network zones for SCADA and BMS, with reliable device-to-server paths for controls traffic. Work closely with the controls and software teams.

  • Security systems. Handle network connections for security cameras and access control devices, and work directly with security system vendors.

  • Specs and vendors. Write the specs, drawings and BOMs we hand to contractors and low-voltage vendors, and review their submittals so we get what we specified. Work with vendors on product selection and move quickly.

  • Configuration. Hands-on setup of switches, firewalls and routers.

  • Commissioning. Point-to-point testing, labeling, as-built drawings and turnover docs at each site. Coordinate fiber testing with the contractor.

  • Operations. Monitoring and alerting, capacity planning, change control, config and firmware management, backups, and root cause analysis after events. Integrate network and infrastructure data into DCIM for asset and capacity management.

  • On-call. Be part of the on-call rotation and the escalation point for network incidents at live sites.

Requirements

  • 5+ years designing and running enterprise or data center networks, At least one build you took from design through commissioning into live operation.

  • Experience producing site-level drawings for large buildings or mission critical facilities.

  • Solid structured cabling knowledge: fiber types and loss budgets, single-mode vs multimode tradeoffs, pathway planning, TIA-942 or equivalent. You can write a cabling design and review someone else's.

  • Can read and mark up construction drawings, riser diagrams and floor plans, and hold Giga’s standard in design reviews with GCs and low-voltage subs.

  • OT network security experience, including IT/OT segmentation.

  • Experience with DCIM platforms and integrating network and infrastructure data into asset and capacity management.

  • Strong CAD skills. AutoCAD or Revit preferred, other drafting tools are fine.

  • Bachelor's in IT, Computer Science, Electrical or Network Engineering.

  • Willing to travel 50% or more.

Bonus points

  • Data center network experience.

  • CCNA or CCNP.

  • Hands-on with Cisco / Rockwell Stratix switches, Fortinet or Palo Alto firewalls.
