Business Introduction
GSK remains committed to achieving bold commercial ambitions for the future. By 2031, we aim to deliver £40 billion in annual sales, leveraging our existing strong performance momentum to significantly increase our positive impact on the health of billions of patients globally. Our Ahead Together strategy is centred on early intervention to prevent and alter the course of disease, thereby protecting people and supporting healthcare systems.
Our diverse portfolio consists of vaccines, specialty medicines, and general medicines.
Through continuous innovation and a dedicated focus on scientific and technical excellence, we strive to develop and launch new, groundbreaking treatments that address critical health challenges.
Job Purpose
The Portfolio Manager for Reliability Engineering & Operations and the Automation Acceleration Hub runs portfolio management for both domains. The role aggregates and manages domain demand, sequences delivery against strategy and capacity, consolidates delivery, cost and roadmap information, and gives domain leadership a clear view of what is being delivered and when.
The role is federated to the domains and feeds the enterprise portfolio maintained by the Investment & Portfolio Manager, applying the central standards set by the Director, Planning & Performance so that domain data is comparable with every other domain. Prioritisation decisions are taken by domain and platform leadership; this role makes those decisions visible, evidenced and consistent.
Key Responsibilities
• Run portfolio management for Reliability Engineering & Operations and the Automation Acceleration Hub, covering demand, prioritisation, planning and reporting across both domains.
• Aggregate and manage domain demand, structuring it against the central prioritisation criteria of value, risk, capacity, strategic fit and OKR alignment.
• Sequence delivery against strategy, capacity and dependencies, giving domain leadership a clear view of what is being delivered and when.
• Feed the domain portfolio into the enterprise view maintained by the Investment & Portfolio Manager, applying central standards so the data is comparable across domains.
• Consolidate delivery, cost and roadmap information for both domains, working with the domain Tech Finance Manager on the cost picture.
• Coordinate the domain planning cycle to the enterprise timetable, preparing materials and ensuring leaders have what they need to prioritise.
• Facilitate domain portfolio governance, with prioritisation decisions taken by domain and platform leadership.
• Manage cross domain dependencies, resolving what can be resolved locally and escalating what cannot.
• Provide portfolio reporting, forecasting and transparency to domain leadership and into the enterprise portfolio, steering with flow metrics and OKR progress.
• Track benefits and value realisation for domain initiatives, applying the central value framework and supporting the named benefit owners in the domains.
• Ensure operational initiatives as well as change projects remain visible and tracked, given the operational weight carried by Reliability Engineering & Operations.
• Use AI tooling to accelerate portfolio analysis, forecasting and reporting.
Professional Qualifications
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business, Information Technology, Project/Programme Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Professional certifications desirable (e.g., Portfolio or Programme Management, Lean Portfolio Management, Agile frameworks, ITIL or service management).
Area of Specialisation
• Domain portfolio management, demand and dependency management, planning and reporting.
• Portfolio practice in an operational and reliability environment, covering run and change work together.
Minimum Level of Job-Related Experience Required
• Overall 15 years typically 6-8 years in portfolio management, programme or project leadership, or planning roles within technology or digital functions.
• Experience running demand management, prioritisation and planning cycles for a domain or business unit.
• Experience consolidating delivery, cost and roadmap information into a single reliable portfolio view.
• Experience managing dependencies across teams and escalating what cannot be resolved locally.
• Experience working to central portfolio standards while operating inside a domain.
• Experience of portfolio practice in an operational environment where run work and change work compete for the same capacity.
• Familiarity with portfolio tooling, flow metrics and AI enabled analytics applied to forecasting and reporting.
Skills/Background
• Strong analytical skills, able to structure and compare demand, cost and capacity information across two domains.
• Excellent facilitation and communication skills, able to run planning and governance sessions with senior stakeholders.
• Well organised, able to run concurrent planning cycles to both a domain and an enterprise timetable.
• Ability to challenge incomplete inputs constructively and without formal authority.
• Understanding of operational delivery, so that run work is represented properly alongside change.
