Show job description

Cara Care, a digital health company backed by Bayer AG, is on a mission to improve people’s digestive health through technology. As we expand our product portfolio and modernize our platform, we’re looking for a versatile, pragmatic, and forward-thinking (Senior) React Native Engineer (m/f/x) to help shape the future of digital therapeutics.

Your Role

You’ll join a cross-functional product team with high ownership, lean processes, and a clear focus: deliver real impact to patients. We’re looking for someone who thrives on solving real-world problems with code, is technology-open, and knows when to build fast and when to build right. You’ll also help us use AI tools and coding agents thoughtfully in day-to-day engineering, turning emerging capabilities into reliable workflows that improve how we design, build, test, and operate patient-facing products.

Your Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and ship high-quality React Native apps for iOS and Android with TypeScript.
  • Use AI coding agents to implement features, refactor code, and generate tests. Define clear tasks and constraints, provide relevant context, and validate the resulting changes through code review, automated tests, and checks on real devices.
  • Own the full mobile lifecycle: architecture, implementation, automated testing, release management, monitoring, and iteration.
  • Integrate native capabilities (push notifications, deep links, biometric auth, camera/sensors); write and maintain native modules when needed (Swift/Kotlin).
  • Drive mobile performance and reliability (startup time, bundle size, memory, battery) and meet accessibility best practices.
  • Set up and evolve mobile CI/CD (e.g., Fastlane, GitHub Actions/Bitrise), internal testing (TestFlight/Play Console), and release pipelines.
  • Collaborate closely with Product, Design, and Medical to explore, define, and deliver patient-centric features, and to improve our current platform.
  • Connect AI-assisted development workflows to design and engineering tools via MCP, for example to access Figma specifications and components, check implementations against designs, and automate repetitive coding and validation tasks. Keep patient data, credentials, and other sensitive information out of unapproved tools and workflows.
  • Uphold technical excellence in architecture, code quality, and security, especially in a regulated healthcare environment, including applicable requirements under IEC 62304, BSI TR-03161, and the MDR.
  • Contribute to a platform that powers multiple regulated digital health products across indications like IBS, GERD, and upcoming expansions.
  • Mentor other developers and help raise the technical bar across the team.

Your Profile

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 3 years focused on React Native and shipping production apps.
  • Expert with React Native and TypeScript, React Navigation, state management, and testing (Jest, React Native Testing Library; Detox a plus).
  • Hands-on experience using AI coding agents to implement features, refactor code, and write automated tests, including connecting agents to engineering tools via MCP. You can explain how you scoped the work, verified the results, and handled tool permissions and sensitive data.
  • Proven track record delivering to App Store and Google Play, including handling certificates/provisioning, in-app updates, and staged rollouts.
  • Solid understanding of mobile security and privacy: secure storage, keychain/keystore, certificate pinning, data minimization, and PII handling.
  • Experience with mobile CI/CD and release automation (Fastlane, GitHub Actions or Bitrise), and tools like Sentry.
  • Product mindset: you’ve worked in product-centric teams, collaborated closely with non-technical stakeholders, and care deeply about UX and accessibility.
  • Bonus: experience in regulated industries, healthcare, or other security-conscious environments; native iOS/Android development (Swift/Kotlin)
