Company Overview

Work Where it Matters

Akima is not just another global enterprise and federal contractor. As an Alaska Native Corporation (ANC), our mission and purpose extend beyond our exciting federal projects as we support our shareholder communities in Alaska.

At Akima, the work you do every day makes a difference in the lives of our 15,000 Iñupiat shareholders, a group of Alaska natives from one of the most remote and harshest environments in the United States.

For our shareholders, Akima provides support and employment opportunities and contributes to the survival of a culture that has thrived above the Arctic Circle for more than 10,000 years.

For our government customers, Akima delivers agile solutions in the core areas of facilities, maintenance, and repair; information technology; logistics; protective services; systems engineering; mission support; furniture, fixtures & equipment (FF&E); and construction.

As an Akima employee, you will be surrounded by a challenging, yet supportive work environment that is committed to innovation and diversity, two of our most important values. You will also have access to our comprehensive benefits and competitive pay in addition to growth opportunities and excellent retirement options.

Description

Akima is seeking an experienced Senior Recruiter to support recruiting efforts across our federal government contracting portfolio, with a primary focus on Department of Energy (DOE) programs, staff augmentation, engineering, and cleared technical recruiting.

This is a remote, individual contributor position, with hiring preference given to candidates within commutable distance of Akima's headquarters in Herndon, Virginia. Occasional on-site attendance and travel may be required for leadership meetings, hiring events, training, and business needs. The position reports directly to the Director II, Recruiting Services.

To join our team of outstanding professionals, apply today!

The ideal candidate will have strong federal government contracting recruiting experience and a proven ability to identify, engage, and attract highly specialized, hard-to-find talent. Experience recruiting and hiring professionals for staff augmentation and contract openings supporting DOE National Laboratories and facilities across the United States is highly preferred, including positions requiring DOE L and Q clearances.

This role will also support DoD, Intelligence Community, and other federal programs requiring cleared professionals across engineering, IT, cybersecurity, skilled trades, operations, corporate, and leadership positions.

Success in this role requires a proactive, hands-on recruiter who goes beyond traditional job postings, leverages advanced sourcing strategies, and utilizes AI-powered recruiting technologies to build strong candidate pipelines.

Responsibilities

  • Manage full life cycle recruiting across multiple Operating Companies, including sourcing, screening, candidate assessment, interview coordination, offer negotiations, and hiring support.

  • Partner with Directors, Operations, Hiring Managers, and Site Leads to understand technical requirements, clearance needs, workforce priorities, and hiring timelines.

  • Support staff augmentation and contract staffing requirements for DOE National Laboratories and facilities nationwide, recruiting qualified professionals for specialized technical and mission-critical openings.

  • Recruit highly specialized engineering, scientific, IT, cybersecurity, skilled trades, technical operations, and leadership professionals supporting DOE, DoD, and other federal contracts.

  • Source candidates with DOE L, DOE Q, Secret, Top Secret, TS/SCI, and other applicable federal security clearances, including candidates eligible to obtain required clearances.

  • Develop targeted sourcing strategies for difficult-to-fill positions using advanced Boolean searches, Google X-ray searches, LinkedIn Recruiter, Indeed, ClearanceJobs, Dice, professional networks, and industry-specific job boards.

  • Leverage AI tools, including ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, LinkedIn AI features, and emerging recruiting technologies for talent mapping, market research, candidate discovery, and sourcing efficiencies.

  • Build and maintain proactive talent pipelines supporting DOE National Laboratories, federal contracting organizations, and specialized technical communities.

  • Support executive searches, high-volume recruiting, proposal staffing, surge hiring, contract transitions, and incumbent capture as assigned.

  • Provide hiring managers with recruiting updates, market intelligence, compensation insights, and candidate availability.

  • Collaborate with Sourcers and Recruiting team members to share best practices, improve sourcing effectiveness, and address challenging staffing requirements.

  • Maintain accurate candidate records, recruiting activities, applicant dispositions, and hiring documentation in iCIMS or a comparable Applicant Tracking System (ATS).

  • Ensure compliance with EEO, ADA, OFCCP, company recruiting policies, and applicable federal and state employment regulations.

  • Maintain recruiting metrics, requisition status, hiring forecasts, and timely communication with candidates and hiring managers.

  • Support recruitment, retention, and professional development initiatives for Alaska Native shareholders.

  • Perform other recruiting-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of full life cycle recruiting experience within the federal government contracting industry, including technical, engineering, IT, or cleared positions.

  • Experience recruiting in staff augmentation or contract staffing environments, including filling specialized positions against federal contract requirements.
  • Working knowledge of federal security clearance requirements, including DOE L/Q, Secret, Top Secret, and TS/SCI.
  • Proficiency with advanced sourcing techniques, including Boolean searches, Google X-ray searches, job boards, professional networking, and AI-powered recruiting tools.
