Job Description:

Our purpose is to deliver energy to the world, today and tomorrow. For over 100 years, bp has focused on discovering, developing, and producing oil and gas in the nations where we operate. We are one of the few companies globally that can provide governments and customers with an integrated energy offering. Delivering our strategy sustainably is fundamental to achieving our ambition to be a net zero company by 2050 or sooner.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and experienced Reservoir Engineer to join the agile, fast-paced integrated subsurface team supporting Rumaila.

As part of the Rumaila Support Team, you will provide reservoir engineering expertise to in-country teams across Production Management, Depletion Management, Reservoir Management and New Well Delivery. You will play a key role in shaping and delivering reservoir depletion strategies that balance short-term production objectives with the long-term health and value of the reservoir.

Working within an integrated group of subsurface practitioners, you will collaborate closely across disciplines, departments and external partners to define, align and progress both short- and long-term field development plans.

What you will deliver

  • Lead reservoir engineering activities to define and advance reservoir depletion plans, including waterflood management, infill drilling campaigns, new well delivery, surveillance planning and execution, and well work planning and execution.
  • Provide reservoir engineering expertise to optimise Rumaila field health and area development activities, protecting and improving value for the government and the JV.
  • Deliver robust short-term business production forecasts and respond effectively to changes in reservoir performance, investment, well activity and project delivery schedules.
  • Collaborate with the Area Development Manager and integrated subsurface teams to identify and evaluate threats and opportunities to the depletion plan.
  • Support the Reservoir Management Team in delivering the long-term integrated production forecast, annual reserves estimation, and related statutory and business reporting requirements.
  • Develop and maintain reservoir performance and management tools to support effective reservoir surveillance and decision-making.
  • Integrate reservoir engineering outcomes across subsurface disciplines to support high-quality technical and business decisions.
  • Provide technical coaching, knowledge sharing and mentorship across the engineering teams in Sunbury and Iraq.
  • Present reservoir engineering work, recommendations and findings clearly to internal and external stakeholders.

What you will need to be successful

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Science is required.
  • MSc or PhD in Petroleum Engineering or Reservoir Engineering is preferred.
  • Significant proven experience in reservoir engineering and reservoir management.
  • Strong technical understanding of reservoir depletion planning and associated activities such as waterflood management, reservoir surveillance, production forecasting, infill drilling and well delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a strong integrator across different technical disciplines, bringing together subsurface inputs to support effective decision-making.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work effectively in a coordinated, fast-paced and collaborative environment while balancing short-term production priorities with longer-term reservoir performance and value.
  • Ability and willingness to support technical development through coaching, knowledge sharing and providing guidance in areas of expertise.
