Senior Sales Engineer

The Sage Group’s client is looking for the third sales engineer for their Sales org. You will join our VP of Sales Engineering, who has led SE teams at SquareX, Saviynt, and Okta, and a sales engineer with nearly twelve years at Okta, most recently as a Principal Sales Engineer. Together, the SE team supports our VP of Sales and three account executives and work directly with the CTO and Engineering. The team's depth today is in enterprise identity, federation, and identity governance. We want this hire to add equal depth in cloud infrastructure and platform engineering: someone at home in AWS, GCP, or Azure IAM, who deploys with Terraform and Kubernetes, writes code to solve integration problems, and can reason about how AI agents authenticate and act in production.

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical win. Lead discovery with security, identity, cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, and AI teams. Define technical and business requirements and build a clear path to a buying decision across all three of the client’s products.
  • Run proofs of value. Agree on written success criteria, design and run evaluations in customer environments, resolve issues as they come up, and deliver readouts that tie results to customer priorities.
  • Win competitive evaluations. Position us against legacy PAM and infrastructure access tools, such as CyberArk, Teleport, and StrongDM, and against cloud-native IAM, and guide customers through replacing them.
  • Deploy and troubleshoot. Deploy us into customer environments on AWS, GCP, and
  • Azure using Terraform and Kubernetes. Connect identity providers, cloud accounts, databases, servers, and diagnose permission, federation, network, and integration failures.
  • Design agent access. Work with customer engineering teams on MCP servers, agent authentication, identity propagation, and runtime authorization, and turn their agent architectures into deployment plans, access policies, and evaluation criteria.
  • Close technical gaps. Write scripts and use APIs to bridge integration gaps during evaluations.
  • Explain limitations and tradeoffs plainly, and partner with Engineering when the product needs to change.
  • Drive adoption and expansion. Work with Customer Success and Engineering to carry evaluation commitments into production rollouts, support technical onboarding, and identify expansion into additional products.
  • Build the SE practice. Create and maintain demos, evaluation environments, deployment guides, and reusable technical content. Bring customer feedback to Product and Engineering with clear use cases and business impact.

Qualifications

  • Five or more years in sales engineering, solutions architecture, customer engineering, or a similar customer-facing technical role with security, identity, or cloud infrastructure products.
  • Personal ownership of technical evaluations in Fortune 500, regulated, or similarly complex enterprise environments, including security reviews, change windows, restrictions, and coordination across multiple customer teams.
  • Deep, hands-on IAM experience in at least one major cloud, including roles, policies, trust relationships, and workload identity. You can troubleshoot a permission failure and explain how access is granted, constrained, and revoked.
  • Hands-on infrastructure skills: deploying and debugging software in customer environments with Terraform, Kubernetes, and containers, backed by solid networking fundamentals.
  • Working proficiency in at least one scripting or programming language, such as Python, Go, or Bash, and comfort building against REST APIs.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise identity and federation, including Okta or Microsoft Entra ID and SAML, OAuth 2.0, and OpenID Connect.
  • Credibility with technical buyers, from platform engineers to CISOs, and the ability to handle objections and turn evaluation results into clear recommendations.
  • Clear writing, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently while knowing when to bring in others.

What will set you apart

  • Hands-on experience building with or securing AI agents, LLM applications, or MCP servers.
  • A background in privileged access management, secrets management, cloud entitlement management, or infrastructure access, especially with tools such as CyberArk, HashiCorp Vault, Teleport, or StrongDM.
  • Platform engineering, SRE, or DevOps experience before or alongside sales engineering.
  • Depth in more than one cloud, or experience with database and data warehouse access controls, such as PostgreSQL, Snowflake, or BigQuery.
  • Experience selling into financial services, healthcare, or other regulated industries.
  • Experience helping build an SE function, launch a new product, or set up a technical evaluation process.

Full Time, Direct-Hire

Salary: $250 - 275k/Year OTE

AI agent experience is not required. If you have built with or secured agents, tell us about it; if

not, tell us how you have been experimenting with them. We care most about strong cloud

and infrastructure fundamentals, evaluations you have personally owned, and how you

approach unfamiliar problems.
