About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Service Mesh Configuration Specialist to design, configure, and optimize service mesh solutions for microservices-based applications and cloud-native infrastructure. The successful candidate will improve service-to-service communication, traffic management, security, observability, and resilience across distributed systems while ensuring reliable and scalable application operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, configure, and maintain service mesh platforms across Kubernetes and cloud-native environments.
• Implement service-to-service communication policies, traffic routing, load balancing, retries, timeouts, and circuit-breaking mechanisms.
• Configure mutual TLS (mTLS), service identity, authentication, authorization, and encrypted communication between workloads.
• Manage service discovery, ingress and egress gateways, traffic splitting, canary releases, and controlled application rollouts.
• Monitor service mesh performance, latency, error rates, traffic patterns, and service availability.
• Troubleshoot connectivity failures, proxy configuration issues, certificate problems, routing errors, and service communication bottlenecks.
• Integrate service mesh observability with distributed tracing, metrics, logging, and monitoring platforms.
• Collaborate with platform engineers, DevOps teams, security specialists, and application developers to improve service reliability.
• Automate service mesh installation, configuration, policy management, and lifecycle operations.
• Support service mesh upgrades, compatibility testing, capacity planning, and production incident resolution.
• Establish configuration standards, security policies, operational procedures, and technical documentation.
• Evaluate service mesh technologies and recommend improvements to architecture, performance, and operational efficiency.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline.
• At least 5–8 years of experience in cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes administration, platform engineering, or distributed systems.
• Hands-on experience with service mesh platforms such as Istio, Linkerd, Consul, or comparable technologies.
• Strong knowledge of Kubernetes, containers, microservices architecture, and service discovery.
• Understanding of HTTP, HTTPS, gRPC, TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing, and network troubleshooting.
• Experience configuring traffic policies, retries, timeouts, circuit breakers, gateways, and mutual TLS.
• Familiarity with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Jaeger, OpenTelemetry, or equivalent platforms.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Experience with Helm, GitOps, infrastructure as code, and automation tools such as Terraform or Ansible.
• Proficiency in scripting or programming languages such as Bash, Python, or Go.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with distributed teams remotely.
