Define the intent. Build with AI. Own what ships.
The Core Platform squad looks after our Property Management System, the engine behind the bookings, check-ins and invoices of thousands of hotels, resorts and holiday parks. It's the most complex environment in our engineering organisation, and what you build here makes a real difference to the people running those businesses.
If you want AI to be part of how you build, with real ownership in a place where the details matter, keep reading.
The opportunity
RMS powers thousands of hospitality businesses around the world. The Core Platform is the foundation that everything else builds on, so performance, data integrity and security here shape every customer's day. The work is as much about judgement as it is about code. The way software gets built is changing too. Our engineers work with AI agents day to day, using specifications, constraints and acceptance criteria to generate, refine and validate production code. There is still a lot to work out about doing that safely in a platform this complex, including the patterns, playbooks and guardrails teams need. You'll help write them.
If you'd rather help decide the answer than be handed it, you'll probably enjoy this one.
Why you'll enjoy this role
You'll work on the hardest problems we have. Database design, query performance, integration patterns and security aren't side concerns in Core Platform. They are the job.
You'll work across the whole stack. React front ends, C# and VB.Net services, APIs, PostgreSQL and MS-SQL. You'll move between layers rather than being confined to one.
You'll help shape how engineering works here. Alongside other senior engineers, you'll set standards and development processes, and sponsor the technologies and practices worth adopting.
You'll help define how AI fits into serious engineering. Not as a novelty, but with real specifications, real tests and real ownership of what ships.
What you'll take on
You'll own the quality and direction of your work in the Core Platform squad, including:
The team you'll join
You'll join the Core Platform squad in Engineering and report to an Engineering Manager. Day to day you'll work with Product Managers and Product Designers, and the VP of Engineering and the CPO are among the people you'll be building for.
You'll sit alongside other senior engineers who help set the standard, and you'll be trusted to form a point of view and mentor engineers earlier in their careers.
What you'll bring
You don't need to have worked in hospitality tech before.
You do need to be at home in a large, complex codebase where performance and correctness matter.
You'll likely have:
Experience with AngularJS, Flux or Redux, CI/CD pipelines, or cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure would be useful, but it isn't essential. And if you don't tick every box, apply anyway. A job description is a wish list, not a checklist.
How we work
We've designed different ways of working because not every role, team or location needs the same setup.
Across RMS, roles sit within one of our work modes: HQ-Anchored, Metro-Anchored, Region-Based, Distributed or Client-Facing / Field. It's a flexible, multi-modal framework: trust-based, role-driven and outcomes-focused. Every mode includes meaningful flexibility and remote working, alongside clear expectations about how we stay connected as a global team.
For this role, you'll work within our Metro-Anchored mode, based within commuting distance of our Melbourne office, with no fixed office days but the expectation you can come together with the team in person when it matters.
Wherever we work from, connection matters. We're async-first: we use tools like Slack to stay close to our teams, share context, make decisions and collaborate across locations and time zones.
AI is also becoming part of how we work across RMS. We expect everyone to build a level of AI fluency relevant to their role, using the technology thoughtfully to improve how they work, solve problems and create better outcomes. What that looks like will vary by role, and it will continue to evolve as we do.

RMS is a global hospitality technology company helping operators run better businesses and create better experiences for their guests.

And you can be yourself here. We're an equal opportunities employer, made up of people with different backgrounds, experiences, personalities and perspectives. That mix makes better ideas and better products for customers all over the world, and it means there isn't one type of person who fits at RMS.
Our values are simple: Committed to customer. Honest words, trusted actions. Push boundaries, stay curious. Own it, make it happen.
What's in it for you
Alongside meaningful ownership, flexible ways of working and the opportunity to contribute to a global SaaS business, everyone at RMS has access to benefits designed to support their development and wellbeing.

What you'll take on
You'll own the quality and direction of your work in the Core Platform squad, including:
- Designing, building and maintaining front-end and back-end components of the Property Management System, from React interfaces through to C# and VB.Net services and APIs.
- Designing and optimising PostgreSQL and MS-SQL databases, and driving performance improvements in queries and back-end processes.
- Working with AI agents as part of everyday development: writing clear specifications, constraints and acceptance criteria, then validating what comes back.
- Helping evolve internal AI patterns, playbooks and guardrails so teams can use AI safely and consistently.
- Building automated testing strategies across the stack, from unit and integration tests through to Playwright, Jest, Mocha or Jasmine.
- Working with Product Managers and Product Designers so back-end systems support the experience customers need, including turning Figma prototypes into working interfaces.
- Raising the bar through code reviews, mentoring more junior engineers and contributing to engineering standards.
- Evaluating new technologies and practices, and championing the ones that earn their place.

- Three or more years building front ends with React, with solid HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript.
- Experience designing and implementing APIs, and a working understanding of asynchronous messaging patterns.
- A strong grounding in testing: unit and integration testing, plus experience with at least one automation framework.
- Good instincts for performance and scalability across every layer of an application.
- Comfort with AI-assisted development, or real curiosity and motivation to adopt it quickly and responsibly, including the judgement to validate, test and take ownership of AI-generated output.
- A genuine interest in mentoring, and the communication skills to explain intent, specifications and trade-offs clearly, not just code.

A few things worth knowing:
- We value ownership. You'll have room to make decisions, and we expect people to take responsibility for moving things forward.
