About Zinkworks

Zinkworks partners with leading Telecommunications and Financial Services organizations to modernize legacy systems, migrate mission-critical platforms to the cloud, and engineer AI-driven automation. From OSS transformation to rApp development and network intelligence, our teams simplify complexity and turn it into competitive advantage. Based in Ireland and operating across the EU, UK, and US, Zinkworks combines deep domain expertise with delivery excellence to help clients modernize faster and operate smarter.

About the Project

We're forming a dedicated delivery squad for a high-growth international technology client. The goal is to move customer support from reactive to proactive. The new platform will detect service issues from the client's operational data, assess their business impact, trigger remediation, and let affected customers know before they have to ask.

It's a greenfield, data- and AI-driven build on Google Cloud, delivered in phases. It starts with incident detection and human-approved remediation, then adds more granular detection and broader automated actions, and ends with a closed-loop system that acts autonomously within defined safety limits. You'll join a squad of around nine people, including a Solution Architect, data, ML, backend, frontend, UX, QA and platform engineers, working in the client's own tooling (Jira, Git, CI/CD).

The Role

You'll build the services that turn a detected incident into action: the impact scoring engine, the incident workflow, remediation through the client's systems, and the communications that go out to operators and customers. This is backend engineering where correctness matters, because the system takes real actions on customer accounts, and eventually does so without a human in the loop.

What You'll Do
  • Build a prioritisation and impact scoring engine that ranks incidents by affected customers, revenue at risk, likely refunds and the cost of the remedy.

  • Integrate with internal and third-party APIs through discovery, sandbox integration and contract tests, then build batch remediation actions behind an approval gate.

  • Implement cohort assembly with eligibility rules, guardrails and idempotency so remediation is safe to retry.

  • Build the incident workflow state machine with full logging and an audit trail, plus automated recovery verification that closes incidents once service is restored.

  • Integrate Slack for the internal incident lifecycle and Intercom for targeted proactive customer messaging.

  • Extend remediation capabilities with cost caps, blast-radius limits and operator preview.

  • Build the safety controls for autonomous operation: rate limits, circuit breakers, a global kill switch and escalation logic.

  • Expose clean APIs for the incident console and dashboards, and contribute to code review and engineering standards across the squad.

What You'll Bring
  • Strong commercial experience building production backend services in Python (e.g. FastAPI, Flask or Django).

  • Solid API design and integration experience with third-party systems, including contract testing.

  • Experience designing workflow or state-machine driven systems with auditability.

  • A good grasp of reliability patterns: idempotency, retries, rate limiting and circuit breakers.

  • Experience deploying and operating services on a cloud platform, ideally Google Cloud, with CI/CD and infrastructure as code.

  • Strong testing discipline across unit, integration and end-to-end levels.

Nice to Have
  • Experience building feature pipelines for ML models.

  • Tools such as dbt, or experience working with high-volume device or telemetry data.

  • Background in telecoms or telemetry data.

  • Experience in client-facing consultancy or managed delivery environments.
