Job Description

Senior Software Engineer, Digital Assets

Danske Bank's Digital Assets team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer with strong C#/.NET experience. You will build dependable backend services, connect systems and contribute to our technical decisions and engineering practices.

The role

Your work will include designing and developing an orchestration layer linking core banking systems with custody, wallet and blockchain services. Secure APIs, messaging, data handling and reliable transaction processing will be central to the role.

Working closely with the Technical Lead and Product Owner, you will take solutions from design through implementation, testing, deployment and ongoing support. You will also collaborate with specialists in architecture, security and operations across the bank.

What You Bring

  • Proven C# and modern .NET skills, demonstrated through backend software you have delivered and supported in production.
  • Good API design and integration skills, covering REST, service authentication and asynchronous communication.
  • Experience with relational data modelling and SQL, including transaction handling and query performance.
  • Practical knowledge of automated testing, containers, CI/CD and diagnosing services in production.
  • The judgement to turn incomplete requirements into testable delivery steps, explain trade-offs, seek feedback and take ownership of your work.
  • Clear spoken and written English, with the ability to collaborate across technical and business teams.

We encourage continuous learning and thoughtful use of development tools, including AI, alongside sound review and testing habits.

Your day-to-day work

  • Develop and maintain C#/.NET backend services with clear interfaces and maintainable code.
  • Build the orchestration services connecting core banking systems to external digital-asset platforms.
  • Design relational data models and use SQL for consistent, efficient data handling.
  • Implement integrations through REST APIs, SDKs, webhooks and messaging, using authentication such as OAuth 2.0 and mutual TLS.
  • Build idempotent transaction workflows with clear status tracking, retry behaviour and operational exception handling.
  • Work with security specialists to integrate established signing and key-management services, applying least privilege, separation of duties and secure credential handling. Ensure signing operations remain auditable.
  • Write unit and integration tests and contribute to peer reviews.
  • Help automate builds and releases through CI/CD and containerised deployment.
  • Instrument services with logs, metrics and alerts, investigate issues and improve reliability and performance.
  • Document design decisions, share knowledge and support colleagues through mentoring.

Useful Additional Experience

Previous blockchain experience is not required. Any of the following would be an advantage:

  • Cloud and delivery: infrastructure as code, container platforms, performance testing, monitoring or recovery planning.
  • Wallet and custody connectivity: working with provider APIs, SDKs and webhooks for wallet provisioning, transaction submission and status updates.
  • Signing and key protection: hardware security modules (HSMs), multi-party computation (MPC), PKCS#11, key derivation using BIP32 or SLIP-0010, or controls for key lifecycle management, backup and recovery.
  • Blockchain transactions: Ethereum or other EVM-compatible networks, ERC-20 transfers, gas and nonce handling, finality or chain reorganisations.
  • Banking and payment systems: core-banking integration, SEPA Instant or financial messaging based on ISO 20022.
  • Regulated software delivery: familiarity with AML/KYC, the Travel Rule, on-chain screening, MiCA or DORA.

Why join the team

  • Influence over solution design, technical choices and engineering practices.
  • Hands-on development alongside our Technical Lead, Product Owner and colleagues across the bank.
  • The opportunity to deepen your knowledge of digital assets within an established financial institution.
  • Scope to share your expertise, mentor others and improve how the team builds, tests and runs software.
