The Senior Software Engineer will build and maintain the core TTA Hub application while helping guide engineering decisions, code quality, testing, and resolution of production issues. This role will work across backend and frontend development and collaborate closely with product, UX, data, and quality assurance team members throughout the development and release lifecycle.

This is a Key Personnel position and will be named in our proposal.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, test, and maintain backend and frontend features within the Government repository using the approved technology stack.
  • Diagnose architectural issues, software defects, and production outages and support timely restoration of application services.
  • Participate in the team's rotating urgent-issue escalation coverage and support timely diagnosis and restoration of production services.
  • Support incident postmortems and implementation of corrective actions following production issues.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to other engineers, including support for design decisions and code-quality reviews.
  • Collaborate with product, UX, data, and QA team members to develop requirements, estimates, APIs, release scope, and acceptance evidence.
  • Incorporate security and privacy controls directly into application code.
  • Develop and maintain meaningful automated testing across the application.
  • Support accessible application interfaces and established accessibility requirements.
  • Maintain current technical and design documentation.
  • Participate in code reviews and promote consistent, maintainable engineering practices across the development team.
Requirements
  • Six (6) or more years of experience building and maintaining production web applications, including responsibility for architecture, testing, and incident recovery.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
  • Strong development experience with Node.js/TypeScript, Express, and React.

  • Experience conducting and participating in code reviews.
  • Experience diagnosing and resolving production application issues.
  • U.S. citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud.gov.
  • Experience with the U.S. Web Design System (USWDS).
  • Experience developing applications that meet Section 508 accessibility requirements.
  • Experience with HHS integrations.
  • Experience supporting production applications through an on-call or urgent-issue rotation.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is an experienced software engineer who is equally comfortable building new functionality and troubleshooting an existing production application. This individual brings strong full-stack technical skills, takes ownership of code quality and testing, and understands the importance of security, privacy, accessibility, and maintainability in a Federal technology environment.

We are looking for someone who works well across disciplines, can help other engineers make sound technical decisions, and remains calm and methodical when diagnosing production issues. The successful candidate will be collaborative, detail-oriented, and committed to delivering reliable, well-tested software while continuously improving the quality of the application.
