Senior Specialist, Land Titles

WHO WE ARE

Our Power, Your Possibilities

At TransAlta, we don’t just generate electricity-we generate opportunity. As one of Canada’s largest publicly traded power generators, we’ve been powering communities for over 100 years across Canada, the U.S., and Australia. Our diverse energy portfolio and passionate team are driving the transition to a cleaner, more sustainable future.

We believe in the power of purpose, the strength of collaboration, and the value of continuous learning. If you’re ready to make a real impact in a dynamic industry, you bring the energy - we’ll provide the platform.

ABOUT THE ROLE

At TransAlta, the Senior Specialist, Land Titles manages complex title, survey, and due diligence matters with minimal supervision and is expected to investigate incomplete or conflicting information and provide well-supported recommendations. The incumbent exercises sound judgment in identifying matters requiring legal interpretation and coordinates those issues with internal and external counsel.

The role supports projects across multiple jurisdictions and must understand differences between U.S. county recording systems and Canadian provincial registry systems. When appropriate, the Senior Title Specialist engages qualified local professionals to support jurisdiction-specific requirements.

In this position you will also provide technical guidance to project teams on title-related risks, mitigation strategies, and industry best practices.

This role is eligible for a remote work arrangement, with a preference for candidates based in the Western United States and specifically Denver, where TransAlta maintains an office.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

  • Develop and manage title-curative strategies, coordinating corrective instruments, releases, subordinations, affirmative coverage and other solutions to resolve material title issues and support project timelines.
  • Review title commitments, exception documents and title policies, working with title insurers and underwriting counsel to resolve coverage issues and ensure alignment with transaction and project requirements.
  • Establish survey requirements, review ALTA/NSPS land title surveys and reconcile findings against title evidence, legal descriptions, recorded rights, access and proposed project layouts.
  • Ensure acquired land rights are properly documented, recorded and enforceable, and support closing and post-closing activities including title clearance, recording and policy issuance.
  • Coordinate title and survey activities with internal teams, legal counsel, title companies, surveyors, underwriters and other specialists, managing priorities, costs, deliverables and project timelines.
  • Prepare clear title reports, risk assessments and recommendations, maintain accurate due diligence records, and provide technical guidance and mentorship to land professionals and project teams.
