Position Summary:
At Illumina, our HR team is highly collaborative, creative, and passionate about advancing our mission through our people practices. We are seeking an experienced Senior Staff HR Business Partner to support several organizations within our BioInsight organization.
In this high-impact individual contributor role, you will partner closely with senior business leaders to translate business priorities into organization and talent strategies that enable performance, innovation and growth. You will serve as a trusted advisor to leaders, bringing strong business acumen, organizational insight and pragmatic HR expertise to complex business and people challenges.
The successful candidate will combine strategic thinking with strong execution, operate independently across a broad range of organizational, talent and workforce priorities, and bring curiosity and demonstrated experience leveraging AI and emerging technologies to enhance the impact and effectiveness of HR work.
*This is a full-time role, Monday through Friday, with an expectation of 3-4 in-office days per week and additional on-site presence as needed. The individual must reside in the greater San Diego area and be able to commute to our corporate offices.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with senior leaders to understand business strategy, organizational priorities and key capabilities, translating them into actionable organization, workforce and talent strategies.
- Serve as a trusted advisor and thought partner to leadership teams, bringing a strong point of view on organizational effectiveness, talent, leadership, culture and the workforce implications of business decisions.
- Provide consultation on organization design, organizational effectiveness, team effectiveness and change management, including organization structures, roles and responsibilities, spans and layers, operating models and ways of working.
- Support organizations as they evolve and scale, identifying the organizational capabilities, skills and workforce requirements needed to deliver current and future business priorities.
- Build strong leadership teams and talent pipelines through succession planning, talent reviews, development planning, leadership coaching and thoughtful internal and external talent decisions; lead core HR processes including performance management and compensation planning.
- Use workforce data, business metrics and qualitative insights to diagnose organizational challenges, identify trends and inform talent and workforce decisions.
- Leverage AI and emerging technologies to enhance the quality, speed and strategic impact of HRBP work, including workforce analysis, scenario modeling, talent insights and decision support. Identify opportunities to automate and redesign HR workflows using AI-enabled tools and agents, while applying sound judgment, governance and data stewardship.
- Help leaders understand the workforce implications of AI and other emerging technologies, including how work, workflows, roles, skills and organizational capabilities may need to evolve, and translate those implications into practical workforce and talent actions.
Qualifications:
- Typically requires a minimum of 12 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years of experience; or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated success partnering with senior leaders in complex, highly skilled organizations; experience supporting scientific, technical, software, data/AI, bioinformatics, clinical or life sciences organizations is preferred.
- Strong business acumen with demonstrated ability to translate business strategy into practical organization, workforce and talent solutions.
- Demonstrated experience in organization design and effectiveness, talent management, succession planning, leadership development and organizational change.
- Strong consulting, influencing and communication skills, including the ability to constructively challenge senior leaders and bring an independent point of view.
- Demonstrated ability to use workforce data, analytics and business information to generate insights and influence decisions.
- Demonstrated experience applying AI tools and capabilities in an HR/HRBP environment to improve analysis, decision support, productivity or HR processes; experience experimenting with automation, AI-enabled workflows or agents is strongly valued.
