Sewer - Almost Famous Clothing

About the Role

Almost Famous is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Sample Sewer to support our Apparel Design and Technical Design teams. This role is responsible for sewing, altering, and constructing garment samples throughout the product development process. The ideal candidate has strong sewing skills, knowledge of garment construction, and the ability to work with a variety of fabrics and silhouettes in a fast-paced fashion environment. This position is based in our NYC office, 4 days in and 1 day remote per week.

Key Responsibilities

• Sew and construct apparel samples based on designer sketches, patterns, specifications, and instructions.
• Assist with the development of prototypes, fit samples, and showroom samples.
• Perform garment alterations, repairs, and adjustments as requested by the Design and Technical Design teams.
• Work with a variety of fabrics, including knits, wovens, denim, and specialty materials.
• Operate industrial sewing machines, including single-needle, overlock/serger, and coverstitch machines.
• Ensure garments are constructed accurately, with attention to stitching, seams, finishing, and overall quality.
• Assist with garment preparation for fittings, including making requested adjustments and corrections.
• Collaborate with Designers and Technical Designers to understand construction details and sample requirements.
• Maintain an organized sewing workspace and properly care for sewing equipment and tools.
• Assist with other sample room and apparel development tasks as needed.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Sample Sewer, Apparel Sewer, Sample Maker, or in a similar garment construction role.
• Strong knowledge of garment construction, sewing techniques, and finishing methods.
• Experience operating industrial sewing machines.
• Ability to work with a variety of fabrics, garment types, and construction techniques.
• Ability to follow patterns, technical specifications, sketches, and verbal instructions.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with a creative team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in a fashion apparel company, sample room, or garment manufacturing environment.
• Familiarity with women's contemporary apparel, including dresses, tops, bottoms, and outerwear.
• Basic patternmaking, draping, or garment alteration experience is a plus.

The expected base salary for this position ranges from $18.00/Hr - $20.00/Hr. Ranges are based on various factors such as relevant skillset, training, years of experience related to the current job description, education, and our organizational structure.
