Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Associate Director, Student Engagement and Strategic Support in the Office of the Associate Provost, Student Life and Learning (OAPSLL), the Skills Development Administrator – Programming for Student Leaders, will support the development and implementation of co-curricular programming for Students Leaders (such as student group executives) in democratic competencies.

The tailored programming will support Student Leaders in developing and practicing the skills, attitudes, and competencies in their governance interactions with McGill administration and their respective student constituencies, while providing a unique opportunity to enhance their co-curricular and employment experiences through meaningful leadership development. In addition, the Skills Development Administrator provides administrative and operational support, assisting with the collection, organization, and preparation of participation and program data for reporting and continuous improvement purposes.

This is a one-year, part-time position offering a schedule of 25 hours per week.

Primary Responsibilities:
Develops and maintains effective working relationships with student leaders, student groups, faculty, staff, and campus partners to support program objectives.

  • Identify student leaders training needs, activities and opportunities and maximize resources/training currently available on campus.
  • Identifies and addresses program delivery issues and student concerns, escalating matters and recommending solutions when appropriate.
  • Performs administrative processes related to programming, communications, registrations, scheduling, logistics, and resource management.
  • Collaborates on the organization, curriculum design, and delivery/implementation of specific democratic and governance competence skills programs (Synergy Circles, McGill Forum on Democratic Leadership, etc.) that build and enhance capacity to participate effectively in civic life, resolve conflicts peacefully, and sustain a fair society for Student Leaders (and others upon request).
  • Provides individual and group advising services to graduate and undergraduate Student Leaders from diverse backgrounds on the Downtown and Macdonald campuses, on democratic competence development including values, attitudes, skills, and knowledge, to support university governance.
  • Creates tools/resources to engage Students Leaders in democratic and governance competency programming for social and civic engagement, conflict resolution, and career readiness (e.g. webinars, publications, social media, etc.).
  • Creates opportunities for Student Leaders to reflect and articulate skills acquired / set personal development goals, using the Student Experience Record or other means.
  • Recruit, train, and administer speakers, interns, and/or volunteers for various events.
  • Engage and ensure the participation of diverse and representative Student Leaders in student leadership and democratic programs and activities.
  • Work closely with the Associate Director, Student Engagement and Strategic Support, and other administrators and staff engaged with Student Leaders to ensure optimal program delivery and integration of current tools and programming, as needed.
  • Work closely with the OAPSLL’s Assessment and Evaluation team by supporting the collection of information, student feedback, stories, and other evidence that can contribute to the assessment of programming and its impact. The position will use findings generated through this work to inform ongoing program development and practice.
  • Supports student leadership consultations and information-gathering activities related to institutional strategic priorities, including the Strategic Academic Plan.
