Software Engineer | Meridian Review Group

Remote | Full-Time or Long-Term Contract | €5,500–€7,000 per month depending on experience

Meridian Review Group is expanding its internal technology team and is looking for a Software Engineer to help build and improve the digital infrastructure behind our growing network of business and markets publications.

You’ll be joining an existing internal engineering team of two developers, working closely with editorial, product and leadership across the group.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys building reliable products, improving existing systems and working in a fast-moving environment where technology directly supports publishing, research, audience growth and new digital products.

About Meridian Review Group

Meridian Review Group is an independent publishing network focused on specialist business, economic and financial journalism.

Our publications include:

  • Czech Business Review
  • German Business Review
  • British Business Review
  • Dutch Business Review
  • American Commerce Review
  • Gulf Business Review
  • Global Markets Review

Across the network, we are building a modern publishing and research infrastructure designed to support high-quality journalism, structured data, research databases, audience products and scalable editorial workflows.

As the group grows, technology is becoming an increasingly important part of how we publish, research, distribute and structure our content.

The Role

As a Software Engineer at Meridian Review Group, you will work alongside our two existing internal developers to improve and expand the systems powering our publication network.

The role will combine product development, platform improvements, technical problem-solving and ongoing optimisation of our websites and internal tools.

Depending on your experience, you may work across areas including:

  • Frontend development
  • Backend development
  • Publishing infrastructure
  • CMS and editorial workflows
  • Internal research tools
  • Data and content pipelines
  • SEO and technical performance
  • APIs and integrations
  • Analytics and audience infrastructure
  • Automation
  • AI-assisted publishing and research tools

This is not a maintenance-only role. We want someone who can contribute ideas, identify weak points in the current stack and help us build better systems as the network grows.

Typical Responsibilities

You may be responsible for:

  • Building and maintaining features across Meridian Review Group websites
  • Working with our existing engineering team on new product development
  • Improving site speed, reliability and technical SEO
  • Developing internal tools for editorial, research and content operations
  • Building and maintaining APIs and integrations
  • Improving publishing workflows across multiple publications
  • Supporting structured data, research databases and content architecture
  • Identifying and resolving technical issues across the network
  • Reviewing and improving existing code
  • Helping shape technical architecture and engineering priorities
  • Working with editorial and commercial teams to turn operational needs into practical software solutions
  • Contributing to AI, automation and data-related projects where relevant

Our Current Technology Environment

Our publishing infrastructure is built around modern web technologies, and experience with some of the following would be particularly useful:

  • JavaScript / TypeScript
  • React
  • Next.js
  • Node.js
  • REST or GraphQL APIs
  • SQL and modern databases
  • Git and GitHub
  • Vercel or similar cloud deployment platforms
  • Headless CMS or custom publishing systems
  • Technical SEO and web performance
  • Structured data and schema markup
  • Analytics platforms
  • AI APIs and automation workflows

You do not need to have worked with every technology listed above.

We care more about strong engineering fundamentals, good judgement and the ability to learn unfamiliar systems quickly.

Who We’re Looking For

We would be interested in hearing from engineers with backgrounds including:

  • Full-stack software engineering
  • Frontend engineering
  • Backend development
  • SaaS or product engineering
  • Publishing or media technology
  • Startup engineering
  • Data or automation-focused development

You should be comfortable working independently while also collaborating closely with a small engineering team.

We are particularly interested in people who can understand the wider business problem behind a technical request rather than simply implementing tickets without context.

Strong candidates will usually demonstrate:

  • Solid software engineering fundamentals
  • Experience building and maintaining production applications
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills
  • Clean and maintainable coding practices
  • Good understanding of web performance and reliability
  • Confidence working with Git-based development workflows
  • The ability to communicate technical decisions clearly
  • Comfort working in a relatively autonomous environment

Experience in publishing, journalism or media is useful but not required.

Working With Us

This is a remote role with flexibility around location.

The expected compensation is €5,500–€7,000 per month, depending on experience, technical depth and the scope of responsibility.

You will be joining an existing team rather than building the technology function alone. Meridian Review Group currently has two internal developers, and this hire will expand that team as we continue building out the network.

The role can be structured as either:

  • A full-time internal position
  • A long-term contract arrangement

For the right person, there is significant scope to take ownership of major parts of the product and technical roadmap over time.

Why Join Meridian Review Group?

This is an opportunity to work on a growing publishing platform where engineering has a direct influence on how the business develops.

Rather than maintaining one isolated website, you will be working across a network of specialist publications and helping build systems that can be reused and scaled across multiple markets.

Projects may range from improving publication infrastructure and editorial tooling to building new research products, structured databases, AI-assisted workflows and audience-facing features.

Because the engineering team is still relatively small, your work will be visible and you will have meaningful influence over both implementation and technical direction.
