As a Software Engineer at Ethiack, you will own features end to end: data model, service logic, API, unit tests, migrations, and the path to production. You will also share ownership of the pipelines and the Kubernetes deployment that ship those features, assisting our dedicated DevOps engineer when needed.
Responsibilities
- Build domain features in Python: SQLAlchemy models, Alembic migrations, service-layer logic, and REST and GraphQL endpoints;
- Implement authorization with Cerbos policies and keep tenant boundaries tight across organizations, partners, hackers and admins;
- Build reliable background work on a Postgres-backed job queue, driven by domain events and a transactional outbox;
- Integrate external services: Google Cloud Storage, Stripe, SendGrid, Zitadel (OIDC), and LLM providers;
- Write tests against real PostgreSQL, review teammates’ pull requests, and keep the docs next to the code current;
- Share ownership of the pipelines and the Kubernetes deployment, assisting the DevOps engineer when needed.
Requirements

- 3+ years (roughly 3 to 5) building backend services that run in production, with Python as your main language;
- Solid experience with an async web framework, ideally FastAPI, and with REST API design
- Strong PostgreSQL skills: schema design, SQL beyond the ORM, transactions, indexes, and safe migrations on live data;
- Experience with an ORM such as SQLAlchemy, and the habit of checking what queries it actually runs;
- Hands-on CI/CD: you can debug a broken build;
- Working knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes: you can read a Deployment or a Helm chart, follow a rollout, and diagnose a pod that won’t start;
- Tests are part of how you deliver;
- Security awareness: authentication, authorization, secrets handling and input validation are part of your design, not an afterthought;
- Clear written English for pull requests, code review and design docs;
- Comfortable in using AI tools in code development and review;
- Basic understanding of cybersecurity and willingness to learn.
