Role Overview
As a Software Engineer, you will design, build, and ship software spanning internal business applications, integrations, MarTech, and beyond. Reporting directly to the Director of Enterprise Intelligence, you will help lead the next stage of our Engineering function. You will build, maintain, and extend our proprietary applications and services, keeping them reliable, secure, performant, and scalable as the business grows.
The ideal candidate has direct experience using AI platforms, including Claude, Gemini, OpenAI, and Jev for software development, prototyping, design, and workflow automation. This experience also includes building custom AI harnesses and integrations. You will apply these capabilities in a technologically progressive company.
You will be part of a very collaborative, very agile team working collectively to fulfill our mission of saving our communities from unscrupulous contractors. We promise an open and transparent environment where you’ll be surrounded by highly intelligent people all working together towards a common goal.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and maintain features across our proprietary web applications, from back-end services to user-facing interfaces.
  • Develop and maintain API integrations with enterprise systems such as Zoho, AccuLynx, Vena, Workday, and Acumatica.
  • Write clean, tested, maintainable code in Elixir and Python, following sound design patterns and code review practices.
  • Partner with stakeholders across finance, operations, marketing, HR, and leadership to turn business needs into well-scoped technical solutions.
  • Build responsive, intuitive user interfaces that apply solid UI/UX principles.
  • Design and evolve the data models and database schemas behind application features, writing efficient SQL where needed.
  • Build and maintain background jobs, scheduled workflows, and service orchestration.
  • Own the quality of what you ship: automated testing, CI/CD, monitoring, documentation, and production support.
  • Improve the performance, scalability, security, and maintainability of our systems.
  • Help retire legacy tools and dependencies by moving the business onto more flexible, in-house software.
  • Use Claude, Gemini, and OpenAI tools to accelerate development, prototype ideas quickly, and build AI-powered features and custom harnesses into our products.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of professional experience in software engineering, ideally building web applications or internal business platforms.
  • Strong proficiency in Elixir and/or Python, with a track record of shipping production code.
  • Solid experience designing, building, and consuming RESTful APIs and third-party integrations.
  • Strong full-stack web development skills, including front-end fundamentals and a good eye for UI/UX.
  • Working proficiency in SQL and relational database design.
  • Experience with Git, code review, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work directly with business leaders and non-technical teams.
  • Ability to balance hands-on technical execution with business-facing delivery and shifting priorities.
  • Comfort working in an AI-enabled environment and applying modern AI tools to development, prototyping, and design workflows.
  • Ability to travel up to 15% of the time.
Preferred Qualification
  • Production experience with Elixir and Phoenix, including LiveView.
  • Experience integrating with CRM and ERP platforms such as Zoho, AccuLynx, or Acumatica.
  • Experience building LLM-powered features, agents, or custom harnesses using Claude, Gemini, OpenAI, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure, containers, and deployment automation.
  • Experience with job scheduling, queues, and background processing frameworks (e.g., Oban).
  • Experience in a fast-moving environment where requirements evolve quickly and stakeholder responsiveness matters.
Benefits
  • Opportunities for professional growth and development tied to your personal interests
  • A transparent, supportive, and collaborative work environment
  • The chance to make a positive impact on our communities and the environment
  • Competitive: Health, dental, and vision coverage; PTO; Paid Holidays; Life Insurance; 401k with match
