We are seeking a Sourcing Engineer for our site in Tampere!
Your role
As a Sourcing Engineer, you will be responsible for sourcing activities within indirect procurement and services. Your work will support Saab’s operations by ensuring that internal stakeholders have access to competitive, reliable and high-quality services, consumables and other indirect goods.
As part of the Sourcing and Production team, you will manage relationships with current and potential suppliers and work closely with stakeholders across production, engineering, HR, administration and facilities. Your work will help ensure a resilient and cost-effective supply base that supports day-to-day operations, projects and production.
Your category scope may include
- Production support services, tooling, consumables and capital equipment, including purchases for investment projects.
- Maintenance, calibration and repair services
- Accessories
- Professional, technical, digital, engineering and consultancy services
- Facility management and site services
- Logistics, transport and warehousing services
- Office, workplace and other operational support services
The role includes occasional domestic travel to supplier sites, Saab locations and industry events, typically accounting for approximately 5-10% of working time.
The role operates in a challenging and complex environment, where Saab continuously pushes the boundaries of what is technically possible. Success in this role requires strong communication and planning skills, a commercial and analytical mindset, and a proactive approach to supplier management.
Key Responsibilities
- Take commercial responsibility for assigned sourcing categories, including sourcing for investment projects, production and business operations.
- Manage and develop the supplier portfolio, including supplier performance, competitiveness, capability, capacity and risk profile.
- Build and maintain long-term supplier relationships in close collaboration with internal stakeholders.
- Lead sourcing activities, including RFQs, quotation evaluation, commercial negotiations and supplier agreement management.
- Monitor market developments, supplier capacity, pricing, contractual risks and service-delivery performance within the assigned categories.
- Identify and drive opportunities for cost efficiency, supplier development, demand consolidation and operational resilience.
- Ensure compliance with Saab’s sourcing strategy, policies, procedures and applicable requirements.
Your profile
To thrive in this role, you are commercially minded, structured and customer-oriented. You communicate confidently with different stakeholders and are comfortable working independently while contributing actively to a cross-functional team.
You have an analytical approach and the ability to manage several priorities in a fast-paced and complex environment. You are proactive in engaging with suppliers and internal stakeholders, and able to take initiative when identifying commercial opportunities, supply risks or improvement needs.
Required skills
- University degree in Engineering, Economics, Supply Chain Management or a related field; alternatively, equivalent relevant work experience
- Experience in strategic sourcing, procurement or supplier management
- Strong negotiation, communication and stakeholder-management skills
- Excellent written and spoken Finnish and English
- Experience in analysing sourcing, supplier or commercial data using Excel or similar tools
We also appreciate
- Experience in indirect procurement, service procurement or category management
- Experience of sourcing professional, technical, IT, facilities, logistics or other operational support services
- Experience in contract management, supplier-performance management and service-level agreements
- Experience of working with ERP, purchasing or contract-management systems for example IFS
- Experience of utilising AI-powered tools to improve efficiency, data analysis or sourcing processes
- Experience in a high-technology, industrial, aerospace or defence environment
