Children’s Funding Project is a nonprofit social impact organization that helps communities and states expand equitable opportunities for children and youth through strategic public financing. Through our hands-on technical assistance and collection of resources, we help advocates, policymakers, public agencies, and funders identify and align existing funding, generate new revenue, and implement strategies to administer funds in ways that maximize their impact. This growing organization is dynamic and seeks to meet the needs of the child and youth field and provide a healthy work environment. Read more about us at: https://www.childrensfundingproject.org/.
About the Position: Children’s Funding Project is seeking a detail-oriented, conscientious, dependable, and proactive individual to help us deliver on our mission to advance and support voter-approved children’s funds (VACFs). This fully remote internship (intern may work from any location within the contiguous United States) will run for approximately 6 months (ideally mid-January through June 2027) and is expected to average 15-20 hours per week, with occasional additional hours required depending on project needs.
The intern will be supervised by the Vice President, Strategy & Advocacy and receive technical direction from the Policy Associate, Voter-Approved Children’s Funds. The intern’s primary focus will be supporting and helping to coordinate the biennial Children’s Funding Institute (CFI), a three-day intensive training for communities working to win a ballot campaign that creates a VACF. Along the way, the intern will learn the policy and process behind establishing and maintaining a VACF, how VACFs fit into the broader child and youth funding landscape, and develop in-depth knowledge about a specific policy area of their choosing. As part of the experience, the intern will connect with a national network of funders, national advocacy and policy organizations, local elected officials, local backbone intermediary organizations, community organizers, and advocates in the child and youth field.
The policy & events intern will have the opportunity to:
- Assist the Policy Associate, Voter-Approved Children’s Funds, in the planning and execution of CFI, including:

- Work with the VP of Strategy & Advocacy to identify a relevant policy area that will be covered at CFI and develop in-depth knowledge of the policy area, culminating in your participation in a session at CFI that demonstrates your learning
- Contribute to other projects as assigned
Qualifications:
- Current undergraduate or graduate student, or recent graduate, with coursework in a relevant area (ex. public policy, education, political science) and/or early career experience in a related profession (ex. child/youth policy, community organizing or campaign coordination, or direct service work with children and youth, etc.)
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite (e.g., using Gmail, Google Docs, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint)
- Excellent organizational, time management, and project management skills (e.g., managing multiple deadlines, keeping a project on track, experience editing documents)
- Clear written and verbal communication skills (e.g., experience facilitating meetings, explaining procedures, writing essays, preparing and delivering PowerPoint presentations)
- Team-oriented attitude with an ability to work both collaboratively and independently in a remote environment
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice in the workplace and as a pursuit in the outcomes of your work

- Compensation is $20 per hour.
- This is a fully remote internship. Work may be performed anywhere within the contiguous United States.
