Job Title: Staff Accountant Job Description The Staff Accountant plays a key role in day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, and month-end close activities. This position helps maintain accurate financial records, supports compliance with accounting standards, and provides analytical insight for business initiatives. The role is ideal for a detail-oriented, analytical professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and contributing to a growing organization. Responsibilities Participate in monthly close activities by preparing and recording journal entries related to prepaid assets, accruals, and other general ledger transactions. Reconcile balance sheet accounts to ensure financial data is complete, accurate, and properly supported. Prepare and review allocation entries for shared costs, consulting expenses, and contractor-related expenditures. Validate expense activity, investigate discrepancies, and ensure compliance with company policies and accounting guidelines. Perform regular reconciliations of bank accounts, credit card accounts, and other key financial records. Assist with accounts receivable processes, including transaction review, payment application, and account analysis. Provide cross-functional support by serving as a backup for accounts payable activities and lease accounting functions. Maintain organized documentation supporting all accounting transactions, journal entries, and reconciliations. Serve as a primary point of contact for employee expense reporting inquiries and policy-related questions. Provide guidance on expense reporting procedures, system functionality, and reimbursement requirements. Support the administration and troubleshooting of expense management platforms to ensure an efficient and user-friendly experience. Assist in monitoring compliance with corporate travel and expense policies. Interpret and analyze financial statements and supporting financial data to provide insights and ensure accuracy. Collaborate with other members of the accounting team to support continuous improvement of accounting processes and controls. Essential Skills Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline. Minimum of 2–3+ years of progressive general accounting experience. Hands-on experience with month-end close processes, including journal entry preparation and general ledger activities. Demonstrated experience performing account reconciliations, including bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations. Working knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting practices. Ability to interpret and analyze financial statements and supporting financial data. Strong written and verbal communication abilities. Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. High level of accuracy and attention to detail in all work products. Ability to work independently while managing competing priorities and deadlines. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, SUMIFS, and other advanced functions. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Outlook. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience using ERP systems and financial reporting tools; familiarity with Dynamics 365 is preferred but not required. Familiarity with revenue recognition guidance under ASC 606 is beneficial. Experience with prepaid expenses, general ledger accounting, and month-end close in a growing organization. Ability to adapt to new systems and processes in a dynamic environment. Interest in contributing to a growing company that is expanding its accounting function. Comfort working within an accounting team that includes senior and staff-level professionals. Work Environment This role operates within a hybrid work environment that combines on-site collaboration with remote flexibility. During the initial training period, the Staff Accountant works fully on-site to learn systems, processes, and workflows. After training, the schedule transitions to a hybrid model with three days in the office and two days remote each week. The accounting team is part of a larger organization with substantial annual revenue and is structured with an Accounting Manager, a senior Accountant, and other staff accounting professionals, providing opportunities for mentorship and collaboration. The environment is fast-paced and growth-oriented, with expanding responsibilities and new roles created as the company scales. Team members use modern ERP systems, including Dynamics 365, and rely heavily on Microsoft Excel and other financial reporting tools. The office setting is professional, and employees are expected to maintain a neat, business-appropriate appearance while on-site. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ontario, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $33.80 - $37.31/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
