Staff Data Scientist, Office of the Founders
LinktreeThe Role
As Data Scientist in Linktree’s Office of the Founder, you’ll be the analytical partner to the decisions that set our direction. You’ll turn a business that serves tens of millions of creators and billions of visitors into a set of numbers leadership can plan against — forecasting where we’re heading, pressure-testing the bets we’re making, and creating clear accountability to the plans we commit to. Most of all, you’ll help Linktree achieve our mission: To empower anyone to curate and grow their digital universe.
You’ll work on the questions that don’t have an owner yet. Some weeks that means building a driver-based model of revenue growth; other weeks it means giving a founder a defensible answer in 48 hours to a question nobody has asked before. You’ll decide which of those the moment calls for, and you’ll be explicit about what your numbers can and can’t support.
You’ll sit close to the executive team while staying hands-on across our data stack, building the datasets, models and forecasts you need rather than waiting for someone else to. You will work 3 days per week from our Melbourne or Sydney office, and 2 days per week from home.
What You’ll Own
- You’ll help founders and executives shape strategy by identifying opportunities, framing key questions and recommending where to focus
- You’ll assess strategic investments, partnerships, quantify trade-offs and recommend what to pursue, test, scale or stop
- You’ll define success measures with Finance and functional leaders, hold teams accountable to agreed outcomes and recommend when to adjust course.
- You’ll build and own the datasets and models that quantify company performance, rather than waiting for another team to prepare them;
- You’ll influence executive and board decisions through clear recommendations and constructive challenge, explaining the assumptions and limits of the evidence.
- You’ll raise the analytical bar across the company, evangelising good practice on metrics, forecasting and statistical rigour;
Who We’re Looking For
- You have at least 5 years of relevant experience as a Data Scientist or in a comparable analytical role in a high-growth technology company;
- You have a track record of shaping strategic direction with founders and executives, and can point to decisions your analysis changed
- You have built driver-based forecasts or operating models, and held yourself accountable to their accuracy;
- You’re hands-on across SQL and a modern analytics stack, and comfortable building your own pipelines and datasets;
- You have at least a Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, economics, computer science or a related discipline;
- You can hold a clear point of view with senior stakeholders, and change your mind when the data says so;
- You thrive in ambiguity, and you’re comfortable being the first person to work on a question;
- You can work from our Melbourne or Sydney office 3 days per week.
Linktree is committed to providing a fair and competitive compensation package including cash, equity, and benefits.
P.S. If you don’t tick every box in this listing, please don’t rule yourself out. We take pride in inclusion and hiring incredible human beings with great potential over ticking boxes – so if this role resonates with you, hit that apply button!
