Position: Staff / Principal Engineer - AI Native Engineering
Remote working policy: Hybrid in Thessaloniki, Greece; approximately three office days per week, subject to confirmation

Salary guide: Indicative €80,000-€125,000 annually, depending on level and experience.

About the company:
Our client is an established global enterprise undertaking a substantial change in how their software is designed, built, tested and operated. You’ll work on complex production systems, combining modern architecture with practical AI-assisted engineering.
About the role: Our client is strengthening its engineering teams as part of a wider investment in AI-native software development. Staff and Principal Engineers will help teams design solutions, use AI tools and develop their technical capabilities, with scope to influence engineering practices beyond your immediate projects.
If you want substantial technical influence while staying close to code, this role offers both. You’ll work within delivery teams on modernisation, integrations and data-intensive products, helping engineers use AI effectively on real problems.
At Staff level, you’ll guide architecture and strengthen delivery teams. At Principal level, your scope may extend to the technical direction of a significant business domain.
What you’ll get to build and influence:
- Design and evolve scalable architectures for business-critical applications
- Simplify legacy systems and complex integrations
- Connect technical decisions to customer needs and measurable business outcomes
- Guide API design, distributed systems, cloud architecture and integration patterns
- Apply AI coding agents to development, codebase understanding, reverse engineering and testing
- Improve the context, instructions, tools and validation used by engineering agents
- Evaluate emerging tools against practical measures of quality, reliability and delivery performance
- Work alongside developers to demonstrate approaches, solve problems and transfer knowledge
- Influence engineering standards through technical credibility and collaboration
- Explain architectural options and trade-offs clearly to product and technology leaders
What we’re looking for:
- Experience operating at Staff, Principal or equivalent technical leadership scope
- A record of designing, delivering or modernising complex enterprise systems
- Current hands-on engineering involvement, including substantive coding, prototyping or implementation
- Applied experience with AI-assisted or agentic software development
- Concrete examples of how AI tools improved engineering workflows, quality or delivery
- Strong architectural judgement across distributed systems, integrations and cloud environments
- End-to-end product engineering experience, from problem definition through production
- Evidence of helping other engineers improve through mentoring, pairing or technical guidance
- Clear communication with both delivery teams and senior stakeholders
- Availability for hybrid working in Thessaloniki
Equivalent technical scope matters more than a particular job title. Formal people-management experience is not required.
Additional experience that would be valuable:
- Engineering in regulated environments
- Large-scale legacy modernisation or systems integration
- High-traffic consumer platforms or data-intensive products
- AI-enabled testing, codebase analysis or developer productivity tooling
Why join our client?
- Stay hands-on while influencing substantial systems and technical decisions
- Solve architecture and modernisation problems with real production consequences
- Develop practical expertise in agentic engineering at enterprise scale
- Help teams become stronger and more independent
- Work within an established organisation with substantial engineering scope
Location:
Thessaloniki, Greece. Approximately three office days per week.
