Job Description: We are seeking a highly collaborative Staff Software Engineer to serve as a senior technical leader on our best‑in‑class Property & Casualty Insurance and Restoration Platform. This role is designed for an experienced engineer who leads through technical excellence, mentorship, and influence, rather than formal people management. As a Staff Engineer, you will act as a technical authority and task lead, helping teams solve complex problems, make sound architectural decisions, and deliver high‑quality, scalable SaaS solutions. You will partner closely with Product, UX, Architecture, and Engineering peers to translate customer needs into well‑designed systems while elevating engineering practices across the organization. Job Responsibilities: · Serve as a senior technical leader for one or more development teams delivering SaaS products · Lead the design and implementation of complex, broad‑scale systems and platform capabilities · Act as a task lead on major initiatives, helping teams break down work, identify risks, and drive execution · Collaborate closely with Product, UX, Architecture, DevOps, and Engineering peers to deliver stable, innovative, and valuable solutions across remote and distributed teams · Own technical decisions across the product development lifecycle, including development, automation, QA, CI/CD, DevOps, and production operations · Mentor and coach engineers through code reviews, design reviews, pairing, and informal guidance—without formal people management responsibilities · Promote and continuously improve quality engineering practices, system reliability, and operational excellence · Contribute to technical roadmaps and influence long‑term architectural direction in alignment with business goals · Use data and metrics to evaluate system performance, guide improvements, and inform technical decisions · Collaborate across teams to ensure alignment, reduce duplication, and execute shared initiatives successfully · Balance long‑term technical health with near‑term delivery needs · Stay current on industry trends, tools, and best practices, and apply them thoughtfully · Challenge assumptions, question the status quo, and continuously seek better ways to build and operate software Job Qualifications: Job Qualifications: · A background in computer science fundamentals: a bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or Engineering or have equivalent professional experience. · Extensive and progressive experience building and delivering scalable and resilient software products. · Several years of building scalable production software and mentoring software development teams · Demonstrated experience and mastery of relevant software design patterns, frameworks, and styles. · The ideal candidate will be able to operate in a fast-paced environment, directing their team to build code that is simple, understandable, clean, and solid. · They will be able to foster and maintain strong relationships with their team and see feedback or failure as motivation to continue learning and growing. Data-driven decision making is the norm for this person. Preferred Qualifications: · Strong investigative and quantitative skills; ability to use hard data and metrics to back up assumptions and ideas · Strong attention to detail, planning, and organization · Passionate about fostering good engineering practices and processes · Experience building teams, motivating, and mentoring software engineers to improve their skills and efficiency. · Ability to take an initiative from scoping requirements through to actual launch of the offering and maintain and improve post go-live. · Experience working in and managing an Agile / Adaptive development team · Excellent verbal and written communication skills. · Strong customer orientation. · Deep hands-on technical expertise; prior experience with technologies like Google Cloud, SQL, Git, Elastic · Experience working asynchronously on a remote, distributed team Cotality's Diversity Commitment: ​ Cotality is fully committed to employing a diverse workforce and creating an inclusive work environment that embraces everyone’s unique contributions, experiences and values.
