Te Tākinatanga | Our Story
At Contact, we believe home is the most important place in the world. That belief shapes everything we do, from leading the energy transition to how we power Aotearoa and care for our people and communities. We’re a power, broadband, and mobile company, but we’re also investing boldly in renewable energy and smarter, more connected ways of working (mahi). Our ambition is simple: to leave Aotearoa better than we found it.
There’s plenty happening across Contact, and good procurement can make a meaningful difference to what gets delivered, how efficiently it happens and the value created along the way. The focus in this role will be Assets, working alongside Procurement’s Strategic Partners and Leads and people across the business to turn operational needs into smart, practical sourcing outcomes. You’ll join a team of hard-working, collaborative people who take ownership of their work and contribute without needing to be micromanaged.
Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the role
As Strategic Sourcing Specialist, you’ll take business requirements and turn them into commercially sound sourcing strategies and supplier arrangements.
You’ll get involved across the sourcing lifecycle, from understanding the market and developing category strategies through tendering, negotiation and contract execution. Just as importantly, you’ll create strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders, helping make sure procurement solutions are practical, fit for purpose and deliver value.
There’s real variety here. You might be analysing spend and supplier performance, negotiating pricing and contractual terms, identifying supply-chain risk, exploring opportunities to standardise products or suppliers, or finding ways to make procurement processes simpler and more efficient.
Success won’t just be measured by savings. It will come through better supplier performance, effective stakeholder relationships, consistent procurement practices and commercial decisions that balance value, quality, risk and delivery.
Ko wai koe | About You
Ideally coming to us with five or more years’ experience across procurement, category management or commercial roles, you have solid capability in strategic sourcing, negotiation and supplier management and a relevant qualification in business, law, supply chain or a related field.
Just as important is how you work. This team needs someone who listens, builds trust and can collaborate with people who may have different priorities or perspectives. You’re someone who’s comfortable working through competing demands, using commercial judgement and data to find a sensible path forward, and naturally takes ownership without needing lots of direction.
If you’ve got experience with SAP, Ariba, Coupa or other procurement technology, even better. You’ll also need to be comfortable travelling when relationships or the work call for it.
If you’re looking for a senior role where you can make a difference, grow your career, and be part of a supportive, future-ready team, we’d love to hear from you.
We support flexible working where it works for the individual, the team and the business. Our main hubs are in Wellington, Auckland and Tauranga, and this role is best suited to someone who can work flexibly from one of these locations to enable strong in person connection and collaboration. (Taupō could work, too!)
Contact is not a place you’ll stagnate. We’re growing, evolving, and investing in our people. We also offer a bunch of other perks like free health insurance cover, boosted KiwiSaver, access to Contact Shares, a ‘Good to be Home’ annual payment toward your home set up & wellbeing, a trail-blazing parental leave policy, twice yearly payments towards our products if you’re a Contact customer, and more!
Applications close on Friday 6 November. But just like peak demand, great talent surges early, so if this role sparks your interest, power up your application now!
