Substation Works Package Manager – 400kV Infrastructure

Location: Lincolnshire / Hybrid (pre-construction)

Rate: Between £450 to £600 per day DOE

Contract: 12-month rolling contract - Inside IR35

We're seeking an experienced Substation Works Package Manager to join a major renewable energy and infrastructure project, overseeing the delivery of a critical 400kV substation and cable connection works package.

This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in a nationally significant energy infrastructure project, taking responsibility for package delivery from the pre-construction phase through to construction, commissioning and final handover.

The Role

Initially, the project is in pre-construction, offering remote working with approximately one day per week attending project meetings in London. As the project progresses into construction, anticipated in approximately 12–18 months, the role will transition to full-time site-based working in Lincolnshire.

You will lead the safe, coordinated and effective delivery of the substation and associated cable route works, working closely with engineering, construction, commercial, quality and health and safety teams.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the delivery of the 400kV substation and associated cable connection works package.
• Manage principal contractors, consultants and subcontractors, ensuring performance against programme, budget and quality requirements.
• Coordinate interfaces between the substation, cable route, wider renewable energy infrastructure and the national grid connection.
• Oversee programme delivery, risk management, change control and package-level reporting.
• Support design development, technical coordination and constructability reviews during pre-construction.
• Coordinate construction, commissioning, energisation and final handover activities.
• Work collaboratively with engineering, project controls, commercial, quality and H&S teams to ensure safe and compliant delivery.
• Monitor progress, identify potential issues and proactively manage commercial, contractual and programme risks.

About You

We're looking for a delivery-focused professional with a strong background in major infrastructure, energy or high-voltage projects.

Ideally, you will have:

• Proven experience delivering large-scale HV infrastructure, substation or major energy projects.
• Experience managing principal contractors and complex construction works packages.
• A strong understanding of project planning, programme management, commercial delivery and contract administration.
• Familiarity with NEC and/or FIDIC contracts.
• A good understanding of CDM Regulations and construction health and safety requirements.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams across engineering, construction and commissioning.
• An understanding of HV commissioning, energisation and handover processes.
• Excellent stakeholder management, communication and problem-solving skills.
• A degree in Engineering, Construction Management or a relevant discipline; an APM PPQ or equivalent project management qualification would be advantageous.
