The Supervising Producer for Public Affairs leads the editorial planning, standards, and execution framework for Minnesota PBS's public affairs portfolio, including Almanac, Almanac at the Capitol, and Town Halls. This role will ensure Almanac evolves into a more contemporary, audience-centered, multiplatform public affairs program.

Compensation: $105,000 to $115,000 annually in addition to company provided benefits.

Hybrid Work Environment: Candidates must live in or be willing to relocate to the Twin Cities Metro area and report to onsite office a minimum of three days per week.

Editorial Leadership and Planning (50% of time)

  • Lead editorial planning across Almanac, Almanac at the Capitol, Town Halls, and digital public affairs initiatives.
  • Modernize Almanac’s format, tone, pacing, visual presentation, and audience relevance while preserving its trusted identity.
  • Translate strategic priorities established by the Managing Director into actionable weekly, monthly, and seasonal plans.
  • Ability to produce Almanac and Almanac at the Capitol as needed.
  • Lead producer for broadcast special projects and town halls.
  • Ensure coverage is aligned with organizational goals around civic engagement, statewide impact, audience growth, and public trust.
  • Maintain editorial standards for accuracy, fairness, balance, inclusion, sourcing, and audience relevance.
  • Coordinate how reporting from politics, health, environment, and Greater Minnesota contributes across programs and platforms.
  • Maintain awareness of major upcoming stories, events, and coverage opportunities.
  • Ensure public affairs products complement one another rather than compete or duplicate effort.

Team/Staff Management (25% of time)

  • Directly supervise Producers, Associate Producers, Assignment Editors, and PTI staff.
  • Provide regular coaching, feedback, mentoring, and professional development.
  • Clarify roles, decision rights, expectations, and workflows across the team.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing culture
  • Conduct performance evaluations and identify growth opportunities for staff.
  • Support succession planning and leadership development within the public affairs unit.

Portfolio Coordination and Execution (20% of time)

  • Monitor execution across public affairs products to ensure alignment with priorities, workflows, schedules, and quality expectations.
  • Review major editorial decisions and provide guidance on complex or sensitive issues.
  • Serve as escalation point for fairness, legal, standards, platforming, and reputational concerns.
  • Coordinate planning between broadcast, digital, and town hall programs.
  • Ensure resources are assigned appropriately, and workload remains sustainable.
  • Partner with internal teams including Marketing & Communications, Production Management and Production Operations.

Other duties as assigned (5% of time)

  • Participate as an active member of the Public Affairs Team. Contribute to shared goals and collaborate with colleagues on achievement of priorities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Experience

  • At least 3 years previous management experience in a broadcast environment.
  • At least 7 years of experience as a broadcast producer in a live television environment.
  • Prior experience supervising editorial staff.
  • Demonstrable non-partisanship.

Preferred Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
  • 10+ years of experience as a producer, executive producer, managing editor, or newsroom leader.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong editorial judgment and news sense.
  • Deep understanding of journalistic ethics, fairness, accuracy, and balance.
  • Ability to identify significant public affairs stories and emerging issues.
  • Performance management and constructive feedback.
  • Conflict resolution and decision-making.
  • Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite – Outlook, Word, Excel, OneDrive, Teams, the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Expertise with modern newsroom production software such as ENPS or iNews.
  • Deep understanding of social media platforms and experiences
  • Strong focus on audience and end user needs.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills. Able to multitask in a fast-paced, time sensitive production environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with all team members.
