Position Summary
The Supply Chain Master Data Planner is primarily responsible for the accuracy, maintenance, and governance of planning-related item master data across supported warehouses and product lines. The role processes new part and item requests, maintains planning parameters and supplying relationships, performs scheduled item-planning checks, and completes approved system updates on a requested, weekly, and quarterly basis.
As a secondary responsibility, the role provides supply-planning support for assigned items or portfolios. This includes reviewing inventory and order exceptions, supporting shortage resolution, and providing coverage during workload peaks or planner absences. The role works closely with Supply Planning, Demand Planning, Product Management, Purchasing, Operations, Customer Service, Information Technology, and other business partners.
Primary Responsibilities
Master Data and Item Setup
- Process New Part Number Requests and confirm that required planning, sourcing, warehouse, and item attributes are complete before system setup.
- Process Item Change Notice requests and implement approved changes accurately and within the required timeline.
- Create, update, and maintain item-planning records and related system settings for supported warehouses and product lines.
- Maintain supplying relationships for distribution items and validate that the correct source and destination locations are assigned.
- Update planning time fences as required or upon approved request.
- Update ABC codes and related planning classifications based on approved criteria and review schedules.
- Complete approved master-data and planning-parameter updates that occur by request, weekly, or quarterly cadence.
Planning Parameter Review and Validation
- Perform M10, MX0, and C80 item-planning checks and correct or escalate incomplete, inconsistent, or inaccurate settings.
- Validate sourcing setup, including purchased, job shop, and distribution methods, and coordinate corrections with the appropriate teams.
- Review planner, buyer, warehouse, lead-time, order-method, and supplying-relationship assignments for accuracy and completeness.
- Identify planning issues caused by missing or incorrect bills of material, routing, sourcing, or item parameters and escalate them to the responsible team.
- Confirm that system changes support the approved business decision and do not create unintended supply, inventory, or order-planning impacts.
Master Data Governance and Controls
- Maintain a clear request queue and change log, including requester, approval, effective date, completed action, and status.
- Perform routine data-quality reviews and reconcile item-planning records across warehouses, reports, and related systems.
- Investigate master-data discrepancies, determine the appropriate corrective action, and coordinate resolution with business owners.
- Maintain process documentation, standard work, templates, and reference files for recurring master-data activities.
- Support internal controls by retaining required approvals and evidence for material system changes.
- Monitor recurring errors and recommend preventive improvements, validation rules, or automation opportunities.
Business Coordination and Reporting
- Coordinate Pinghu order requests and related item or sourcing setup activities when assigned.
- Prepare or support the PO Review Report and Open Sales Order Report according to the agreed schedule.
- Provide status updates on open master-data requests, aging items, recurring exceptions, and completed periodic reviews.
- Communicate system changes and expected planning impacts to Supply Planning, Product Management, Demand Planning, Purchasing, Operations, and Customer Service.
- Participate in cross-functional reviews when item setup, sourcing, excess risk, minimum order quantity, or planning parameters require clarification.
Secondary Responsibilities
Supply Planning Support
- Provide planning support for an assigned group of shared SKUs, product lines, or customer portfolio based on team workload and business priorities.
- Review inventory outlook, open orders, shortages, back orders, excess inventory, and related planning exceptions for assigned items.
- Release and monitor spike orders and support timely follow-up on order exceptions.
- Support SBU and supply reviews by coordinating with Demand Planning on forecast changes, excess risk, minimum order quantities, and product life-cycle considerations.
- Review whether demand should be supported through purchase orders, work orders, transfers, job shop, or distribution supply, and escalate setup concerns when needed.
- Assist with purchase-order, work-order, and transfer reviews for assigned items and provide backup coverage for other planners when required.
- Respond to internal inquiries regarding item availability, planning status, and supply constraints, or route the request to the responsible planner.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve master-data accuracy, request turnaround time, planning stability, and cross-functional handoffs.
- Support development of data-quality measures, service-level targets, and recurring review schedules.
- Participate in system testing, process changes, and implementation activities that affect item planning or master data.
- Cross-train designated team members on critical master-data processes and maintain backup procedures for business continuity.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, Information Systems, Data Management, Logistics, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Experience in master data management, item setup, supply chain planning, inventory management, materials planning, or a related function.

- Experience with new-item setup, change-control workflows, periodic data audits, and planning exception reporting.
- Familiarity with supply planning, shortage management, purchase orders, work orders, transfers, and inventory outlook reporting.
