GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking a Survey Field Technician to work with our Pittsburgh Power and Energy Market Sector within our Power & Energy Business Unit. General Characteristics Begins to develop advanced field operations skills; possesses computer skills, good visual and hearing skills, follows procedures; good organizational skills; working in weather conditions (extreme heat, cold, etc.); works with safety in mind, must be flexible with work hours and willingness to travel up to 100% during the week days and occasional weekend travel and/or work, able to do physically demanding work; ability to lift and carry between 25 and 50 lbs. routinely; ability to walk for lengthy periods. Physical Requirements Travel requirements: 95% Travel details: Willingness to travel up to 100% during weekdays; Occasional weekend travel and/or work may also be required. Lifting/maneuvering requirements: Up to 35lbs. Exposure to outdoor elements: approximately 75% of the day Walking long distances outdoors on uneven terrain: approximately 75% of the day Operating mid-size or full-size trucks offroad in various weather conditions: approximately 75% of the day Climbing, walking, bending, navigating construction landscapes: approximately 75% of the day Minimum Experience 2-3+ Years of Experience Education H.S. Graduate Certification/Licensure Driver’s License Technical Responsibilities Leads effective safety talks, able to coordinate with office personnel on group assignments, Able to conduct QMS on survey activity for group including horizontal and vertical measurement accuracy, general understanding of coordinate geometry, Must know survey nomenclature, should understand how to download or transfer files from the data collector, able to operate total stations, data collector, etc.; intermediate GPS/Survey skills; ability to set up tri-pods, levels, solid understanding of equipment usage including calibration, and care of delicate and expensive equipment; must have a steady hand and allow for proper measurements required for survey technical work; must be able to occasionally work at heights in certain environmental conditions, wade through water; ride in a boat; swimming skills (Preferred); ability to safely use hand tools, etc. Project and Task Management Begins to lead tasks. Management, Supervision and Guidance Able to lead crews up to two other people. Can work independently or lead crews when necessary. Communication, Teamwork, and Leadership Possesses effective oral and written communication skills; interacts well with other staff, communicates effectively with clients, field representatives, able to motivate others, ability to function positively in a team environment, able to keep teams working harmoniously.
