Abingdon, UK
Reward and Benefits
- £40,000 - £48,000 (depending on experience)
- 3x salary death in service, BUPA private health care benefits, a generous EMI Share scheme.
If you are a Technical Support Specialist (Hardware) who enjoys diagnosing complex mechanical, optical and electronic faults, why not join us in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, and help keep high-performance semiconductor metrology systems running, in the field and on the build floor.
You’ll be the person Field Service and Applications call when a Metron3D system needs a real expert. We are looking for an ambitious and adaptable Technical Support Specialist (Hardware) to provide technical expertise across system hardware, control systems and manufacturing development. You will be collaborating with Applications, Customer Support, Engineering and Manufacturing teams to keep cutting edge products performing. If you’re highly collaborative, love untangling a hard technical problem, and want your fixes to shape the next design, this could be a very strong move, and we’d love to hear from you.
What you’ll be doing
- Provide advanced troubleshooting for complex hardware issues on installed Metron3D systems and manufacturing builds, acting as the technical escalation point for Field Service and Applications
- Diagnose faults across mechanical, optical and electronic subsystems, including OEM modules and custom components, and reproduce and analyse customer-reported issues
- Work hand in hand with the Technical Support Specialist (Control Systems) to trace system-level problems across hardware and control systems
- Lead and contribute to structured root cause investigations, then agree permanent corrective actions, design improvements and process changes with Engineering and Manufacturing
- Support Manufacturing Development Engineers with system integration, assembly and build troubleshooting, with input on manufacturability and system stability
- Analyse field data, logs and performance reports, support failure analysis of returned parts, and turn lessons learned into troubleshooting procedures, diagnostic workflows and training for Customer Support and Applications
Skills and experience we’re looking for:
- Hands-on experience of precision electromechanical systems and opto-mechanical assemblies
- High-stability instrumentation requiring sub-micron precision
- Vibration isolation, nano-positioning stages, sensors and tight tolerance mechanical assemblies
- Diagnosing complex system issues across mechanical, electronic and optical subsystems
- A background in semiconductor equipment, scientific instrumentation or photonics
- Analysing how hardware, software and environmental factors interact
- Explaining complex technical challenges clearly to key stakeholders
- Works well across disciplines with Applications, Customer Support, Engineering and Manufacturing teams
We’d love to see:
- Familiarity with wafer handling systems, EFEM modules, robotics and automated semiconductor tool architectures
- Familiarity with metrology tools and nano-scale microscopy systems
