The client’s team is growing rapidly, and they are looking for an experienced, driven and highly organised Team Manager to join their growing tax team.
This is an opportunity for someone with strong tax knowledge and leadership ability to take ownership of the team’s day-to-day workflow, while helping the client build smarter, more efficient and technology-driven ways of working.
Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate:
- Has at least 5 years of tax experience, preferably with strong experience in individual tax, SARS and eFiling.
- Has strong leadership and people-management skills.
- Understands workflows, processes and operational efficiency.
- Has a strong interest in AI, automation and technology, and understands how these tools can be used to optimise workloads and improve team performance.
- Is highly organised, proactive and able to take ownership.
- Has excellent attention to detail and understands the importance of accuracy when dealing with tax matters.
- Is comfortable managing multiple priorities and ensuring that deadlines and deliverables are consistently met.
- Is a strong communicator who can motivate, manage and support a growing team.
- Is comfortable dealing directly with clients and SARS where required.
- Has a strong understanding of individual tax returns, medical tax rebates, SARS processes and tax administration.
The Team Manager will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day workflow of the tax team, ensuring that work is completed accurately, efficiently and on time.
The Team Manager will also play a hands-on role in managing tax matters, supporting team members, resolving issues and ensuring that client deliverables are completed to a high standard.
Key responsibilities will include:
Tax Returns & Medical Tax Rebates- Oversee and assist with the preparation and submission of individual income tax returns.
- Manage the end-to-end process for Additional Medical Expense Tax Credits (Section 6B medical tax rebates).
- Review client medical information and supporting documentation to assess eligibility for additional tax relief.
- Ensure medical expenses and applicable rebates are correctly captured and optimised.
- Review assessments and identify discrepancies, correction opportunities or further claims.
- Identify opportunities to maximise eligible medical expense claims in accordance with applicable tax legislation.
- Prepare and submit Requests for Correction, Notices of Objection (NOOs) and supporting submissions.
- Draft clear and accurate dispute motivations aligned with SARS verification outcomes and medical rebate claims.
- Respond to SARS verification requests, audits and requests for additional information.
- Track dispute timelines and ensure all responses and follow-ups are completed within required deadlines.
- Monitor outstanding SARS matters and proactively follow up where required.
- Manage submissions and case administration through SARS eFiling.
- Monitor notices, letters and assessments on a daily basis.
- Track correspondence, submissions and case progress.
- Maintain organised and accurate digital records of submissions and client communications.
- Escalate urgent or high-risk matters appropriately.
- Oversee the team's daily workflow and allocation of work.
- Track cases and ensure that team members meet deadlines and required turnaround times.
- Support colleagues with technical, documentation and administrative matters.
- Maintain high standards of accuracy, productivity, confidentiality and client service.
- Identify workflow bottlenecks and implement solutions to improve efficiency.
- Motivate, manage and develop team members as the business continues to grow.
- Assist with general tax return and client tax consultations where required.
- Implement agreed action items arising from consultations and strategy meetings.
- Prepare documentation, submissions and corrections based on consultation outcomes.
- Follow through on client action plans to ensure successful implementation.
- Liaise with clients to obtain outstanding documentation and information required for submissions.
A key part of the role will be helping the client scale intelligently.
The Team Manager will be expected to:
- Identify opportunities to automate repetitive tax and administrative processes.
- Explore and implement AI-driven tools and workflows.
- Improve internal processes to reduce manual workloads and increase turnaround times.
- Identify opportunities to improve accuracy and reduce errors.
- Help build scalable systems and processes as the team grows.
- Encourage the team to adopt technology that improves productivity and client service.
- Assist with basic invoicing relating to completed claims or services rendered.
- Ensure billing records align with completed work and relevant claim milestones.
- Maintain accurate administrative records across client matters.
