Job Description

Just imagine creating the digital blueprint of future factories, where every layout decision improves production flow, flexibility, and efficiency. Then make it real.

About the role

As our Technical Layout Designer, you'll help shape how the LEGO® Group designs and develops production environments across our manufacturing network. Joining Manufacturing Design & Implementation (MD&I), you'll contribute to factory concepts, layouts, and technical solutions for both existing and new production setups. This is a two-year temporary position where you'll combine technical design expertise with an interest in manufacturing and logistics to create smart, practical factory layouts that support efficient operations.

Please note: This position is based in Billund, Denmark. Our flexible working model allows employees to work 3 days/week in-office and 2 days/week from home. However, some teams have higher demand for in-office days. There is no relocation for this role.

Required Qualifications

  • Completed a relevant education in technical design, CAD design, drafting, industrial design, or related field.
  • Fluency in English with both written and verbal communication (C1 or above).
  • Applied 2–5 years of experience working with factory layouts, factory equipment design, or logistics systems.
  • Developed clear design standards, layouts, or detailed engineering documentation within manufacturing environments.
  • Created 2D and 3D technical drawings using Autodesk AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor.
  • Contributed to project delivery as a team member within structured project management environments.
  • Worked with operational or logistics processes in a production setting.
  • Able to travel up to 20 days per year.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Comfortable balancing detailed CAD work with discussions on the factory floor.
  • Enjoys improving layouts through collaboration with manufacturing and logistics colleagues.
  • Takes pride in producing accurate drawings and documentation that others can confidently build from.

What you'll build

  • Create and maintain factory layouts that support efficient production flow and future manufacturing needs.
  • Develop 2D and 3D drawings of factory equipment as part of the journey toward complete digital factory views.
  • Support projects ranging from new production areas to modifications of existing factory layouts, both big and small.
  • Improve production layouts, factory designs, and supporting documentation by applying knowledge of logistics and material flows.
  • Apply global layout standards to ensure consistency across manufacturing sites.
  • Collaborate across the Layout Functional Team to deliver consistent and scalable design solutions.
  • Contribute to factory designs that reduce constraints, improve flow, and support future production needs.

If you've worked in a role where technical drawings, factory layouts, or logistics-focused design were central to your work, you'll feel at home here. What matters most is your ability to turn complex requirements into clear, practical design solutions that support real operational outcomes.

Life on the team

You'll join MD&I, a global team of project managers and specialists with diverse backgrounds and shared goals. We regularly review layouts together, challenge design assumptions, and share lessons learned from projects across our global manufacturing network. Success often comes from balancing technical precision with practical production realities, whether supporting a new factory concept or refining an existing line. Colleagues who enjoy solving practical design challenges, producing accurate work, and supporting one another tend to thrive here.

What success looks like

Success in this role means becoming a trusted contributor to factory designs that improve production flow, flexibility, and efficiency. Over time, you'll become a go-to contributor for layouts and equipment drawings used in active factory projects, helping teams make decisions about production flow, material movement, and future expansion opportunities. You'll work closely with layout specialists, project managers, and manufacturing stakeholders to translate ideas into practical design solutions that support the future of production.
