Ready to own how a team builds, not just what you build? Come lead technical delivery on software for labs, researchers, and scientific instrument makers.
About Yahara:
We help scientific organizations solve hard problems and move their industries forward, from life sciences startups and CROs to the teams building lab software and scientific instruments. It's work we're proud of, and we're excited about the successes still ahead.
Join a team recognized as one of Madison Magazine's Best Places to Work, where innovation thrives and collaboration drives success. We don't just build software. We empower people and transform industries.
Important Notes about this Position:
- This is a hybrid position based out of our office in Madison, WI.
- We are unable to provide sponsorship.
The Opportunity:
You'll own the technical delivery of a project team: the quality, pace, and direction of the work. You'll partner with project managers, requirements engineers, and QA to turn client needs into working systems for life sciences startups, CROs, and lab software teams. This is a technical leadership role. You'll lead through project ownership and mentorship, while people management stays with your engineering manager.
Our Approach:
We build on strong engineering fundamentals: solid methodology, rigorous testing, and sound architecture. We use AI tools like Claude and Codex where they speed up delivery, while keeping critical thinking and engineering discipline at the center. We own the quality, accuracy, and understanding of the code we ship.
What You'll Do:
- Own technical delivery for a project team, from architecture to release.
- Turn requirements into well-defined stories and tasks with your PM and requirements engineer.
- Make project-level architecture calls and capture them in ADRs.
- Design, build, and deploy cloud applications on AWS or Azure.
- Mentor engineers through code reviews and direct conversations.
- Help teammates work through hard problems instead of solving them for them.
- Keep clients informed on status, technical decisions, and risks.
- Join pre-sales conversations with solution outlines and rough estimates.
- Bring AI tooling into how your team reviews code, breaks down stories, and documents decisions.
- Make sure testing and quality practices hold up across the project.
What You'll Bring:
Experience:
- 6+ years of software development experience.
- Experience leading technical work on a team, formally or informally.
- Hands-on design of systems that span multiple components.
- Experience deploying and operating applications on AWS or Azure.
Mindset:
- Comfort making decisions and leading a team through ambiguity.
- Genuine interest in helping other engineers grow.
- Clear communication with clients and non-technical stakeholders.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with life sciences organizations, lab systems, or regulated scientific software.
- Familiarity with HIPAA, FDA, or GxP requirements.
- A consulting or client-services background.
- Pre-sales, estimation, or proposal experience.
- AWS or Azure certifications.
Tech You'll Use:
- .NET, Python, or Node.js on the back end
- JavaScript/TypeScript with React or similar on the front end
- Postgres, SQL Server, or other relational databases
- AWS or Azure
- Docker or Kubernetes
- AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code
