Technical Lead : C++ Ultra-Low Latency Trading / Exchange Connectivity.
Hong Kong (Hybrid) - Hong Kong
Our client is hiring a Technical Lead to join a Ultra-Low Latency & Exchange Connectivity engineering team in Hong Kong. This is a senior, hands-on role building and evolving the technology that powers latency-sensitive electronic trading across the region—covering platform performance, reliability, and client/exchange connectivity.
If you enjoy working close to the “sharp end” of trading infrastructure (Linux, C++, network performance, and production stability) and want real ownership of delivery and technical direction, this is a strong opportunity.
The position is a Principal FPGA Engineer - a senior, hands-on technologist responsible for designing and optimising ultra-low latency hardware acceleration within an electronic trading / exchange connectivity stack. The role typically owns FPGA architecture and delivery end-to-end, working from requirements with trading and core engineering teams through to implementation (RTL, timing closure, verification), deployment in colocation environments, and ongoing production performance tuning. You’d be building and maintaining deterministic, high-throughput FPGA components for feed handling / order-path acceleration and latency-critical networking, partnering closely with C++/Linux engineers to deliver measurable latency improvements while meeting resilience, controls, and operational standards in a high-pressure production environment.
Technical Lead — Why Apply?
- Work in one of the most performance-sensitive areas of the business (ultra-low latency / colocation / high-frequency workflows)
- Build and enhance core trading infrastructure and new platform rollouts
- Deliver software (and partner on hardware solutions) where speed + stability are non-negotiable
- Exposure to the end-to-end electronic trading ecosystem: exchange connectivity, client integration, and controls
- Partner closely with product, client coverage, risk/control stakeholders, and global engineering groups
- Hybrid working environment in Hong Kong
- Competitive package (role is budgeted around ~2.0–2.5m total comp, depending on fit)
Key Responsibilities
- Build and deliver high-performance connectivity solutions linking clients to exchanges
- Engineer systems supporting major exchange protocols and industry-standard FIX
- Contribute to platform development and rollout with a focus on:
- Latency, throughput, stability, and resilience
- Production reliability and operational excellence
- Meeting regulatory and control expectations
- Work cross-functionally to translate requirements into robust technical solutions
- Drive engineering best practices and mentor others (lead-by-example in delivery and technical standards)
Requirements
- Strong C++ development experience (performance-oriented)
- Strong knowledge of low-latency Linux / distributed environments
- Experience with Python (or similar scripting) for tooling/automation
- Solid grasp of TCP/IP networking (highly beneficial)
- FIX protocol knowledge is a plus
- Excellent communication skills; able to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Proactive mindset, strong coordination/time management, and a track record of delivering under pressure
