Technical Team Leader – Mechanical Commissioning (CxA)- Datacenter

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Commissioning Technical Team Leader to lead the commissioning delivery team of hyperscale and colocation AI data-centre projects.

The role will provide technical leadership, people management and client-facing governance across the complete commissioning lifecycle from L0–L6, with a strong focus on L4 Functional Performance Testing (FPT) and L5 Integrated Systems Testing (IST).

This position is site-centric and requires hands-on leadership through Integrated Systems Testing, including failure mode and fault tolerance validation, ensuring systems meet design intent, availability objectives and operational readiness requirements in line with Uptime Institute, IEC, IEEE, and NFPA standards.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Commissioning Leadership

• Spearhead end-to-end commissioning of mission-critical electrical systems including MV/LV utility and distribution systems, transformers, protection systems, switchgear, busway systems, UPS (static and rotary), battery systems, standby generators, paralleling gear, load bank systems, STS, PDUs, RPPs, and critical power distribution.

Integrated Systems Testing & Validation

• Architect and execute IST strategies and scripts aligned with Uptime Institute methodology.
• Lead failure mode testing, redundancy validation, and fault tolerance demonstrations across black-building, partial load, and full load testing scenarios.
• Oversee Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) for major electrical equipment.
• Direct Functional Performance Testing (FPT) to verify system operation under normal, abnormal and failure conditions.

Design Assurance & Technical Review

• Conduct design and peer reviews at all project stages from a commissionability and operational resilience perspective.
• Evaluate electrical schematics, single line diagrams, protection philosophies and vendor technical submittals to identify and mitigate commissionability risks.

Systems Integration & Controls Validation

• Validate integration of electrical systems with EPMS and BMS platforms, verifying alarms, trending, sequencing, interlocks, and operational visibility during IST.
• Coordinate with mechanical and IT commissioning teams to ensure holistic system integration and performance.

Project Coordination & Stakeholder Management

• Collaborate with project managers, construction teams, MEP contractors, OEMs, and client representatives to ensure seamless commissioning delivery.
• Facilitate resolution of technical issues and coordinate across disciplines to maintain programme momentum.

Documentation, Compliance & Handover

• Develop and manage commissioning plans, execution strategies, test scripts, procedures, checklists, issue logs, punch lists, risk registers, and final commissioning reports.
• Ensure strict compliance with Uptime Institute Tier Standards, IEC, IEEE, NFPA, NEC and applicable local codes.
• Support client handover and transition to operations with comprehensive systems documentation.

Risk Management & Issue Resolution

• Identify, analyse and resolve electrical system deficiencies during commissioning to mitigate risk to programme, safety and availability objectives.

Health, Safety & Team Leadership

• Enforce site HSE compliance including RAMS reviews, toolbox talks and risk assessments.
• Lead, mentor and develop commissioning engineers, subcontractors and vendors to deliver excellence.

Requirements

• 15+ years overall mechanical engineering, testing and commissioning experience.

• 8+ years data-center or mission-critical mechanical commissioning experience.

• Proven leadership of at least 2 complete L2 to L5 commissioning cycles.

• Proven experience of leading at least 2 ISTs of hyperscale datacenter projects.

• Experience managing 15–20+ Cx engineers.

• Strong hands-on knowledge of HVAC, chilled-water systems, cooling towers, CRAH/CRAC, BMS/controls, fuel systems, fire protection and utilities.

• Experience with high-density/liquid cooling is highly desirable.

• Strong understanding of Uptime Institute, ASHRAE, NFPA and applicable local codes/standards.

• Strong knowledge of Sequence of Operations, controls integration, TAB, hydronic balancing and failure-mode testing.

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

• Strong client-facing communication and technical leadership skills.
