Salary Range: £28,697 - £31,573 per annum
Work Location: Elizabeth II Court, Winchester (Hybrid Working)
Hours per week: 37 (part time hours will be considered)
Contract Type: Permanent
Closing Date: 22 November 2026
The Role:
Hampshire County Council is looking to recruit within our Safer Roads and Parking Team as part of the Traffic and Safety Group. We are looking for talented and motivated individuals to help shape the future of our communities.
This role provides the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge in this area of work. It is an ideal role for someone starting a career in this area of engineering and offers varied and interesting projects with the opportunity for innovation. It is a hybrid and flexible working role which can be carried out from home and drop-in centres throughout the County as well as the County Council Headquarters in Winchester and external locations, and does include work on live highway sites.
What you’ll do:
This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team and play a key part in keeping Hampshire moving and making the roads safer. In an engineering role you will assist in the delivery and monitoring of the Traffic and Safety scheme programmes, be involved in identifying, devising and delivering schemes and initiatives that will enhance the safety and efficiency of the road network for all highway users, as well as providing support for other highways and transport functions. This will include working closely with our external partner organisations such as the Police, District and Borough Councils, and other public bodies and representatives, as well as internal partner groups.
We would love to hear from applicants who want to be part of a successful road safety and community focused Traffic and Safety Team.
What we’re looking for:
We’re looking for a well-organised and proactive individual with strong communication skills and a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams/Zoom. Educated to GCSE level (including Maths and English), you will be able to work independently, manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and contribute effectively as part of a team.
You will have an understanding of road user safety and the principles of improving road user behaviour, with the ability to apply your knowledge to support the development and delivery of highway safety and traffic management projects, including budget management. Previous experience in traffic management, road safety, or highway engineering would be advantageous, but is not essential.
